I firmly stand by my believe that Director Roland Emmerich is currently one of the biggest hacks working in Hollywood. Why does portable technology have to suck

Due to an unexplained Hardware malfunction, my laptop's charger port won't read anything connected to it without jamming it in so hard to the point of damn near breaking my AC adapter. Because of this I have to conserve power, so I'm writing this from a Library computer and will probably be as inactive as possible (save for weekends home and free time at the Library) until the problem is handled. Sorry guys, hope to take care of this really soon.

Rider out.

Halloween Horror Renaissance

Happy, happy Halloween, Spill.com. You had to have heard it around some time before but the horror genre has really stagnated in film over the course of the last several years. Despite all of blood, gore, language and gratuitous violence, horror has gotten away from the atmosphere, timing and psychology that actually make a scary movie scary. Yet, through all of the dull and derivative teen slashers and mediocre ghost stories, the last couple of years have released a surprising number of quality… Continue

District 9 review by Rider

Taking recent history into account, one would think that Hollywood has practically had its way with the Sci-Fi genre and walked away. After “2001: A Space Odyssey”, the genre has become rather stale, settling for rehashed ideas in mediocre fashion. What makes Distric… Continue

Ponyo review by Rider

Magical. You know the word had to be referenced at least once in such a review, so I’m getting my clichés out of the way right now. How Hayao Miyazaki continues to do it, I’ll never know but like the rest of his work, Ponyo simply astonishes from beginning to end.… Continue

He sure was, man. The series has definitely returned to form as far as I'm concerned. It's really unfortunate that there are at least two more sequels planned, though, as this would've been one hell of an ending to the series.

Thanks Riders. That's a very generous offer, but your post is more than enough. I really appreciate the sentiment.. :-)

Hey there, Rider! Obviously, I've loved reading all of your movie reviews. Just out of curiosity, what film do you plan on seeing next?

I don't think that it was "better" when it was obscured, so much as the way people HANDLED it was better. There wasn't a massive marketing team behind it. People didn't do Cosplay sort of stuff to "fit in", but to be the person that "stood out" at conventions.

But yeah, there was a lot more "enjoyable" shows back in the days of not knowing what the hell you were going to watch, compared to today's world of "Massive-detail" before you even get a chance to press 'Play' on the machine.

It's a decent show but not worth revisiting once it's been experienced.

That's exactly how I felt about Gundam the first time I a saw it. I wasn't overly impressed, and thought that it was an "okay" show for what it was trying to do. Then the additional "pile-on" mentality of people who refused to accept that it wasn't for me, and I wasn't devoted to it, started to happen and it became an issue of people saying that I MUST enjoy it as much as they did. When I said that I didn't enjoy it as much as they did, they became hostile and started to say that the problem was with ME, and not that the show itself missed the mark with me.

It was THOSE people that I do clump together, because it's their mindset that isn't helpful. They have this concept that a show must be watched AND it must be enjoyed. If you don't like that show, it's NOT because you didn't like the characters, or the story, or the artwork, or the script, or the pacing, or the character development. .... it's simply because YOU don't have the ability to like ANY of it. Which is where I get worked up, because it's not an appreciation for different views in enjoyment.

And every now and then you run across people that would suggest the show, and let YOU make up your mind on if you liked it or not. Even if you didn't like 1 thing about the entire show, you at least gave it a TRY and came up with your own opinion. We might not like Title-A, but we might like Title-B, or you might like Title-C and tell me about it.

Well, I loved "Wanted" but once you're done, that's it. "Ultimate Spider-Man" on the other hand, is the beginning of a really amazing title that's been doing gangbusters for a long time now. If you considered yourself a Spider-Man fan at all already, go with Ultimate.
