7 Tips for Writing a Film Review

by Mark NicholWhen I wrote for my college newspaper, one of the assignments I enjoyed most was writing film reviews. And I was terrible at it, as I soon realized. Why? I was writing the equivalent of book reports: movie reports.Fortunately, I came to my senses and realized that evaluating films and plays and the like (and, yes, books) is more complicated, yet more satisfying, that that. Here are some tips — not necessarily in the order in which they would be applied in your writing — for…See More

The Man from Nowhere[Ajeossi](2010)

This movie is so much like the Korean version of Man on Fire.A badass guy went depressed after losing his wife in a tragic accident. Then he met a little girl who reminded him of something pure and beautiful in the past. The girl was brought up by a messed up drug addict mom who got involved with a drug deal and pissed up a bunch of cruel gangsters. So it goes. The mom ended up dead without being in one…See More

Limitless (2011)

I like the idea of the movie.A drug can make you very smart. But you will run out of your time sooner.Because the drug can also make you use up all your brain power. Will you take it? I think I will.

I love how they used the camera to show what it would be like after taking the drug.It was quite a dizzy world.Everything moved so fast that no one would remember what just happened. It was too surreal.

Somehow I think the movie is saying that drugs or even anti-depressants could give you… Continue

Rango (2011)

I went to a cinema to watch this movie.

The place was full of young kids. One toddler in a front row seat threw a tantrum in the middle of the movie. He laughed and then screamed like an baby bird having his feathers plucked on the spot. His mom walked him back and forth trying to calm him down. Finally,I guess a person who worked in the cinema got them out for good.(Or they unplugged the kid's power.)

The movie wasn't made for kids for sure.It is too artistic and weird. But it is really… Continue

Troll Hunter (2010)

Seriously,it is a very funny mockumentary.
There were special effects for sure and they were pretty decent.
I enjoyed the storytelling most.Actually it was more like a YouTube video about weird stuff.
You know it is not real.So you chuckled all the way till the very end.
Then they tell you...
There are trolls in Norway. That is why expensive electric lines are needed.
...
I kept on laughing.Man,it is too entertaining.

Let The Bullets Fly(2011)

Jiang Wen is a bad-ass director.I am not lying about it.Let The Bullets Fly is my proof. The movie has topped the box office in mainland China and brought in some serious big money.Actually it has become the most talked movie among Chinese movie viewers.People can't stop picking on the political hints in the movie, which I found pretty tedious. It is true that Jiang Wen is very bold about his political stand and showed it in his works. If I am not wrong,he is quite against the whole communist…
