About Me:
22years old. 6 credits stand between me and a BA.

I used to intern for a Japanese film organization in Manhattan and I still (not so)frequently volunteer there for screenings and events. Other than that and a few undergrad courses on film and film criticism, my only experience with movies is just that I love watching them and would love someday to make one.

I am a proud member of the Spill Artists Guild. The Guild are an elite bunch. I'd like to write my own comic book and/or screenplay someday. Actually I have started a comic book, and you can follow my progress here: http://my.spill.com/profiles/blogs/just-some-doodles

I'm also a member of LEOG, and if I had to choose my favorite graphic novel it would probably be Scud: The Disposable Assassin followed by Watchmen and then probably Kingdom Come.

World's Greatest Dad Theatrical Release:Aug 21, 2009 Limited It's certainly not for everybody but I don't care because it kinda blew me away. It's god damn dark, hilarious, cynical and insightful. I'm really glad Bobcat Goldthwait decided to s...

In a nutshell: This movie's twist sucks, but here's the long version. Franklyn is the story of a jackass who dresses and self-narrates exactly like Rorschach from Watchmen, right down to his disgust with humanity, except that Ryan Philipe is not ...

Mike's Review of 2009 so far

Here's the thing, I don't go out and see movies that I already know I'm not going to like, which includes American remakes of Asian horror movies, and big hollywood self-masterbatory drivel like Transformers and G.I. Joe. So I'm sure there are worse films out there than the one's I'm listing but these are only the ones I've actually seen. If thee re better ones that I have overlooked or maybe have never heard of, please let me know.

With that in mind, let's get into it, shall we?

The Evolution of Mainstream American Comedies

This is just a first draft! I'm going to check all the dates and cast-lists of these movies, and maybe even make a diagram. So I'm telling you off the bat thee WILL be mistakes in here. Mostly chronology. So chill your grills.

Here's the chain of American comedies as I remember it. So I guess that means from the mid-90s to the present.

Let's start with Adam Sandler and Chris Farley/David Spade who were SNL guys that actually riding on the coattails of Mike Myers who seemed to have magically s… Continue

Paul Giamatti as Paul Giamatti in "Cold Souls": Review

About two weeks ago I watched the flaming dog turd more commonly known as "The Illusionist." Well that movie is not good, BUT I could not deny at least one gem from it. That gem was Paul Giamatti. It was then that I realized that he is probably one of my favorite actors. He may not be the handsomest guy but god damn that man can deliver a lin… Continue

The (lack of) signficant symbolism in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"

Before I begin, I have to tell you that I'm going to spoil the plot. This isn't a review, it's a criticism.

The Man who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

One parallel I can draw from this movie is to a recent film, the Dark Knight. In the end, it turns out that the man who shot Liberty Valance is not the one who led the city to greatness as the legend had told, after all, so… Continue

McG, you got some 'Splanin' to do!

I'm very disappointed with this movie. Though I didn't hate it as much as my friends did, I wasn't by any means satisfied by what I saw tonight.

The good:

Sam Worthington's character, Marcus Wright and Blair, a resistance fighter. (How slammin was that girl?)
Some of the terminator robot fight scenes.

The bad:
Everything else.

Where do I begin?

Well, for starters they shouldn't… Continue

Haven't heard of it but it does sound kind of cool. Have you watched the teaser for Tron Legacy yet?

I'm glad they chose Daft Punk to do the soundtrack.

Yeah, Gamer seems to want to please all those Gears of War/video game junkies which is cool but I think if you want to watch a film with more originality and Indie weirdness then you should have had Where the Wild Things Are or Taking Woodstock on your list.

"So secular law takes precedence?"

No, but I am to follow the law unless it causes me to sin.

How am I a hypocrite when speaking about slavery?

Slavery was wrong in america because it was racial and treated black people as not being human.
