Watchmen movie is like taking whippets

I have noticed, at least amongst people I know, that the initial viewing of the Watchmen was outstanding and an event to behold. But once they left the theater the feeling passed like a fart in the wind. While none say the movie sucked, people do seem to act like it was a different movie afterwards. Once they were allowed to think again it didn't seem like the it had the same effect. Makes me wonder if the squid is present in the movie after all.
