Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Blu-Ray Review

Ever since George Lucas got on his high Tom-Tom declaring movies are never finished, audiences were left with a bad taste in their mouth as we watched Greedo shoot first and a CGI Jabba slither about. So you can imagine how one would react to Ghost in the Shell 2.0, a remaster/upgrade of the first Ghost in the Shell film (as if it needed one). However, Ghost in the Shell is one of the few anime movies I'd love to have on Blu-Ray. And while this isn't quite the release I was expecting, it's…See More

My Crappy Box Office Picks (1-8-10)

It's a new year and a new decade which means it's time for the first crop of new movie-ah, who the hell cares? You know Avatar is going to be number 1 again. If a naked Robert Downy Junior and CGI chipmunks can't topple this blue hunk of science fiction, than it's going to be around for a long time. Even during Christmas where it seemed like Scrooge gave his fortune to the studios, Avatar gave the newbies a whoopin'. So, there is no question who will be #1; let's talk #2 (no pun…See More

'Farscape The Complete Series Boxed Set' review by Madness Mark

When you think of Jim Henson Studios, what comes to mind? The Muppets, Sesame Street, Labyrinth, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, maybe even Where the Wild Things Are. However, I'll always recognize the company for Farscape, probably one of their best productions ever. Remember how awesome it was seeing those bizarre creature creations in Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal? Imagine seeing a new design like those every week. That is what it was like watching Farscape every week on the Sci-Fi channel.…See More

Madness Mark thinks "Evangelion 1.0 - You Are (Not) Alone" needs an upgrade

Congratulations, you bitchy Evangelion fanboys, you got your movie. Evangelion 1.0 is probably one of the most faithful movie adaptations you'll ever get (or at least one you'll bitch the least about). It follows the original story, makes no drastic changes, updates the animation while not disturbing the designs, and it even keeps the same shots. This is the perfect movie for a hardcore Evangelion nut. As for a casual fan like me, it couldn't be more tedious.Never seen Evangelion? Here is all…See More

Farscape: The Complete Series $70 PLUS Peacekeepers Wars

For those who really was love Farscape (and I don't see why anybody wouldn't), Best Buy has the complete series (which was just released this week) for $70! Their regular price is $130, their sale price says $100, but their online price says $70. I went to one of their stores to confirm this and I nabbed the complete series for not only less than a buck per episode (88 episodes total), but it also came with the Peacekeeper Wars miniseries which is NOT included in the complete collection.I'll…See More

Madness Mark was mind-raped by Xavier: Renegade Angel (and enjoyed it)

Xavier is a very hard character to explain (at least physically). In short, he is a mystic, hairy, six-nippled, blonde, beaked freak with a snake for an arm and knees that bend in the opposite direction. Much like David Carradine in Kung-Fu, Xavier travels the land to impart his spiritual knowledge to others, whether they want his help or not. However, his ramblings usually end up making things worse. And by worse, I mean end-of-the-universe worse… Continue

Well shit, man. Congrats! Got any big plans for honeymoon vacations? Hows the teaching going? Hope its better than my teaching experience (class sizes of 3 and 4 people, smallest being 2 largest being 5 at a school that had no idea what animation was)

Yeah, I admit that I did pass on a LOT of movies this year. But at around 8 bucks a ticket, that's well over 900 bucks. Even catching them on Netflix when they come out still takes some time to catch up. Besides, a bunch that I passed on in 2009 just weren't for me. Not saying all the movies I passed on were bad movies, just they weren't for my personal taste.

Yes, most of the anime I listed are by the same director, Makoto Shinkai, but Mamoru Hosoda directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. If Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days were too long for you, then you don't have to worry b/c 5 Centimeters per Second is only 63 minutes long and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is only 93 minutes long.

Heya! Nice 2 hear from you and Sarah. Really loved your blogs on Adult Swim shows and Anime WITHOUT School Girls, Ninjas, or Giant Robots. If you like serious/really good modern anime, you should also check out the following anime movies: 5 Centimeters per Second, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Voices of a Distant Star (even though it does have giant robots)
