Amen. I hate it too. I went to High School in Osaka, and I loved it, and then I came back to the states for College. My school was well known for their Asian studies and Japanese programs. Came in freshman year over qualified but they don't tell you that until you're already enrolled. Been over qualified, bored and hating it ever since. I did another year and a half abroad 2 years ago in Tokyo which was great. Back in the US, I ended up taking a philosophy minor and I love it and wish I had majored in this from the beginning. But yea I despise this major. If I knew it would be all history, business and Keigo I would have never done it. Even had a Japanese conversation college course? I've never met anyone who has. hmm
As for the movies, a lot of people seem to favor your sort of taste over mine. I recognize those as classics I just honestly don't really enjoy them as much for whatever reason. It's like... I know Shawshank Redemption is really good, and I see why everyone likes it, even I like it, but I just wouldn't put it in my personal Top 10 list because there are just other things I liked better. I think Korey and them do reviews based on what they think other people will think, but meh that's not for me.
I saw Sukiyaki with a friend who loved it but I was falling asleep. Something like that I guess some people might like but I'd never watch it again. I had to read the Japanese subtitles to understand what was going on. When I resort to that you know something is wrong. What was the point of that story anyway? I didn't care enough to remember.
I have a semester left. How did you like the major?
My favorites are actually some really old movies. some are from a classics collection called Nikkatsu Studios from the 60s. There is also a series that I think consists of 47 or 48 movies called Tora-san" I think the actually title is "Otoko ha turai yo." Random trivia: it's the longest running movie series of all time. And basically everything in the Criterian Collection is worth watching. But here were my favorites from last year I wrote a nice little organized userfriendly blog about it. http://my.spill.com/profiles/blogs/947994:BlogPost:659640
Nope. But we're both starting to get that alot. I've read a few responses to him asking if he is me, and I get the question at least once a month now. I really should drop him a line and say hey.
I am German, but I love Jews. And Blacks. And Mexicans. And Gypsies.
I love you all you minor races!!
Just kidding. And I am actually Polish, so don't do a "You're a NAZI!" on me.
