2010 in Film - A Review of the Year

This is a little list I write up every year where I go through my ticket collection and write a short review for all the movies I saw.  Naturally, it's not EVERY movie of the year, but it's a good group of them. 1- Shit2- Bad3- Whatever4- Good5- Mindblowing DAYBREAKERS - 3/5It's a fun little premise - vampires rule society and humans are harvested for food - but it isn't pulled off very well.  The movie's just really cheap looking and the jump scares are pathetic.  I did however enjoy the whole…See More

The Last Airbender (and why it's so appalling)

The Last AirbenderAnd What Went WrongHas the issue been beaten to death already? Yes. But that wont stop me. Movie, prepare to be ripped to shreds.INTROWatching The Last Airbender was like watching someone you love die. This was the worst disgrace to source material I've ever seen, and that's coming from a Godzilla fan. At least with the American Godzilla remake, they produced a dumb summer popcorn flick that was still kinda fun. With Avatar, I mean The Last Airbender, they completely ignored…See More

Avatar: The Last Airbender (and why it's so appealing)

Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Audience of a Modern Day EpicIt says a lot that a Nickelodeon cartoon managed to attract more than just the target audience of young boys between the ages of six and eleven. It says a lot that the cartoon was rooted in Eastern Mythology and oriental art. It says even more that Avatar: The Last Airbender was so widely recognized for its risky departure from the status quo.The first chapter of Avatar aired in February of 2005 and the season continued through the…See More

Kurosawa's Chaos - RAN

Kurosawa's Chaos - RANAn analysis of the 1985 Japanese masterpiece from Akira KurosawaIn the century-long span of film history, few names are able to compare in reputation, artistry, creativity, and influence to that of Japan's Akira Kurosawa. The man who would grow into legend was more famous for his film 'Seven Samurai' in 1954 but had a number of masterpieces that painted his vast filmmaking career. Late in Kurosawa's legacy, he directed an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'King Lear' simply…See More

Oh my bad dude. Like I said, I was just super-pissed off at the moment, so I kinda made a general statement and called it a night. I'll choose my words more carefully next time :)

Dude, that was a few months ago and I was a wee bit pissed that so many people just didn't give a shit about this topic, and yours and Stephen's responses were eerily similar

Sorry if it seemed like a grab for attention, but there was just something about the issue that made me lose it a bit in the internet or real world

I believe in freedom of the press, the freedom to speak one's mind; you claim that I am foolish for believing in such a concept? The way the Framers of the US Constitution believed so? The way Enlightened philosophers believed so as they were persecuted by the Catholic Church, my church? They were all threatened with death. Some of those threats came true, but if you live in a society that affords so many freedoms, but you merely say you have them, and are not willing to defend their ideal, what's the point? So we just throw freedom of speech just because of hate-mongers say so? That, my friend, is BULLSHIT
