Hello I see your from the Seattle area like myself.
A friend of mine here who is also from the Seattle area Mattashell (aka Machohervey) is working on a project from Spill Con in Texas this year.
He is inviting myself and everyone from the Seattle area to participate in this production.
Here is the letter from him to me that might explain whats going on.
Also click on his name here to leave comments on his page for more details.

Hi Renegade. I'm writing to you because you're the only spill person I know in the Seattle area. As you know by now I am indeed working on a fan film for the Spill festival. I don't have a date yet, but some evening in the week after next (May 30 - June 5) I wanted to give you an opportunity to be a part of production, and if you don't want to work you're invited to come down and watch us do it. I don't want you to feel obligated, but if you want to, we'd love to have you. Another favor I have to ask is if you could direct me to any other Spill fans in the Seattle area. I'd love to invite anyone who wants to be a part of it. Without any help, I still think I can get it done on time, but my puppets have gotten a positive reaction from the community since Korey outed me on LDT so I want to give any nearby Spill members the chance to contribute. I'm going to start a group to invite people to participate.

Jesse man, I wholeheartedly agree with you there. It's true, there is no way that you can translate from one form to the screen without changing the dynamic.

My problem though is more on the matter of the games that are chosen, most of them are chosen on their popularity and not on their merit as a story. Just look at Doom. The story was shit, through and through. And the resident evil sequels, absolute undiluted diarrhea milkshakes. They really fail because most movies are made on the basis of successful films.

Resident Evil = Dawn of the Dead (original)
Resident Evil 3 = Pretty much any Jason movie mixed with Night of the Living Dead.
Halo = Starship Troopers mixed with any generic zombie movie.

I could keep going but I don't have 500 years.
The only reasonably acceptable video game movie is Mortal Kombat really.
I do have faith that a good video game can be made though, given time and good material. Personally if I could pick a video game series to made into a movie, I would go with the Legacy of Kain series. If you don't know what they are look them up and check out their plot, they actually got real writers to write the dialogue and my god it shows, the scenes are like a visual massage.

Yo man, I was just looking through the blogs on the site and I noticed that they were halting production on the bioshock movie. This got me thinking as to whether you can actually make a good video game movie. I'd definitely like to hear your thoughts.

Indeed, I look forward to sparring with you on the next subject. En garde.
