The Periphery

With the modern gaming climate being an onslaught of new games week after week, it's safe to assume that everyone has games that they have either heard about or seen in stores that have grabbed their attention, but they've never really taken the time, or had the disposable income on hand, to play.  I thought this would be a good place to discuss what those games are for you, and maybe even get an opinion from people who have played them as to whether or not they're worth checking out.  So,…See More

Gamestop forced to display DLC warning on used games in California

A class action lawsuit in California now requires Gamestop locations in the state, as well as on their website, to label games that are missing free DLC that comes with purchase for at least the next two years.  Apparently the firm handling the lawsuit was able to prove that Gamestop was misleading customers by displaying game cases for used games that advertised free DLC with purchase (though I'm assuming these were games that had the original offers printed on the case).  They say their goal…See More

What if the music industry as we know it collapsed?

I came up with this question as I was listening to one of the most recent LEOG episodes and they were discussing the current recording industry being in its death throes.  If the recording industry as we know it does in fact collapse, what do you think the future of music will be like?  Would this be a change for the better or for the worse, and which genres do you think will be most effected?  I'm looking forward to good discussion on this!See More

SSX

I want to talk about this game because I think it's one that is going below a lot of people's radars, and it's so much fun that I feel it should be brought up.The SSX series has been around since the beginning of the Playstation 2.  I liked the games, but didn't really get into them in the way that I've gotten into the latest installment in the series.  To be honest, I don't think I've been this into an extreme sports game since the original Tony Hawk.  The game is a pretty ambitious project…See More

Mass Effect 3 Demo

The demo for Mass Effect 3 went live today, and after playing it, I'm psyched for the game.  The combat feels even tighter than it did in ME2, and I'm liking the ability to dodge roll and easily switch between cover.  The level system looks like it will be interesting since abilities seem to branch throughout their evolution instead of just progressing with cool down times and effectiveness.  It remains to be seen how different games will start, however, since the demo doesn't really allude to…See More

Kingdoms of Amalur Discussion

I've got a few hours in this game now, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.  It has a lot of the things I like about Skyrim, but with a much more unique and interesting combat system.  Think God of War.  The class progression is really interesting, too.  You can put points in two any of three class trees: Might (warrior), Finesse (rogue), and Magic (self explanatory).  If you start branching out with your points, you can unlock hybrid classes that combine all the skills for more interesting play.…See More

Scientists Breaking through to 20 Million Year Old Antarctic Lake

I just read an article that says scientists at Vostok point in Antarctica have or are very close to (depending on the source) finish drilling down to Vostok lake, a freshwater reservoir under 4 kilometers of ice that has been sealed off to the atmosphere for about 20 million years.  As someone who loves polar exploration, I'm pretty excited about this.  They expect to be able to learn a lot about climate change from this discovery, and are hoping to see if any simple or complex life did or…See More

Video Game Sales: Which Ones Count, and Which Ones Don't?

I remember a year or two ago, Nintendo announced that Wii Sports was the best selling game of all time.  The thing is, as a game that was bundled with the console, does this really count?  It's not like people buying a new console had a choice as to whether or not they bought the game.  What do you guys think?  Should Wii Sports really wear this crown, or does it belong to a game that people went bought specifically?See More

Forza Motorsport 4 Review: Has the King of Racing Sims been Dethroned?

Disclaimer: I do compare this game to Gran Turismo 5 a lot This is necessary due to the fact that it's the only other racing sim out there.  At no point is it my intention to come off as an XBox fanboy. I do have both systems and own both games.…

Brink First Impressions (XBox 360)

I started off the day reading a lot of horror stories about the condition of Brink at launch, and I was kind of alarmed.  My copy was already on its way from Amazon and I was worried that maybe I had just thrown away $60 of my hard earned money.  The game certainly seemed cool in theory, a combination of Team Fortress and Mirror's Edge looked like just what the doctor ordered, but there I was reading reports that the game had some major issues with graphics loading, frame rate being cut in…
