Screw you Paramount and Landmark theater (NY)

I didn’t want this to sound like sour grapes on not getting in the pre-screening of Paranormal, I knew the odds of not possibly getting in, but here’s the rub....having confirmed RSVP, having gotten there where their were no more than thirty or forty people ahead, ( in a theater that sits over two hundred) The organizing asswipes made no attempts for crowd control, and with that hundreds of latecomers not only snuck ahead, but were able to gain access within minutes while the organizers stood th… Continue

G-man's top underrated movie soundtracks, volume 1

This is Just to remind fellow soundtrack lovers, that some scores never got the big spotlight they deserve. So it is with honor I present these little heard gems for your enjoyment.

SuperGirl 1984—Composer Jerry Goldsmith

To be fair this movie isn’t very good, it tried to ride the coat tails of the Superman franchise and went free fall into box office oblivion. The real shame is that everybody tend to dismiss everything about the film, but Goldsmith’s music is indeed worth listening to. It is… Continue

Finally .....the Dollhouse just got interesting

A Spy in the House Of Love ep 9

It took a awhile, but finally Dollhouse just got interesting. I won't bother recapping anything that's what Hulu is for, but I will say that Whedon has pushed the arc of the stories in second gear, before the stand alone episodes seem to meander around as if the slow pace enhanced the situations. News flash--bad idea for a friday night, audience wants excitement not a talky.
Joss does do fun dialogue in his shows, but the gimmick only works if something else was… Continue

Removing Spill's dead weight members

Let's be honest not everybody is articulate and engaging in starting blogs and such (like me), if anything some people may just enjoy the pretty sights and colors. For that it's forgivable, but there's another element that should be scrutinized more, the trolls that pretend to be girls just to get hits, making up film or historical figures as members, and people who are more oriented toward other interests such as music.
For most it's simply the myspace spill over, and perhaps the problem is tha… Continue

Bad Movie Sequels: Does the fault rest with the writers or the Audience?

There's a danger that maintaining a franchise just for the sake of the green backs, erodes whatever artistic integrity it once had, becoming a former shell of itself, a name only in appearance. It could be said that as a familiar marketing title, the audience will come no matter how poorly written. The writer or committee of writers really don't have to make much of an effort in telling a good story.
A colleague of mine is so facinated with the Rocky series, that he doesn't care if Stallone does… Continue

I think my horror taste is as eclectic as my musical taste, if I may say so without sounding pretentious. I do love Evil Dead 2 but Peeping Tom freaked me out more for some reason. I was chuckling through the beginning but it managed to get under my skin over time. I haven't watched it in a few years but I plan to revisit that movie soon. However, I think I've seen Evil Dead 2 too many times so it's kind of lost some of its appeal to me.

But to answer your question, I haven't seen many of the pre-50s classics. I only saw Freaks and loved it, which isn't really horror by today's standards, and the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, which didn't really do much for me. I'm more of a 70s and 80s type of chick but there are quite a few recent horror flicks that I absolutely love (Cube, May, The Mist, The Ruins, The Orphanage, Sunshine, etc.). I think I'm more drawn to psychological horror than actual gore or jump scares, and atmosphere is crucial for me to buy into any premise presented in a horror film. To me, after the Exorcist, the scariest movie of all time is Spoorloos (or the original The Vanishing). I find both these movies dripping with dread and tension all the way through. There isn't a drop of blood to be found in Spoorloos but it gives me chills from beginning to end. I watched a movie called The Hole a few weeks ago and I also found that very effective on a psychological level, although it does have many flaws. I guess sociopathy and psychopathy terrify me. Another example is the documentary Dear Zachary. That shit stayed with me for weeks (watch it if you want to know why). How about you? What's the common thread in the movies you love or that get to you the most?

P.S. Barry White, Frank Sinatra: some great singing along music. I wish Band Hero would give them the attention they deserve. :)

Thank you for your message, G-Man!
I feel strongly about my horror flicks and I love discussing them even more. I've become very skeptical from being disappointed so often, even by the filmmakers I've admired in the past. I take it you agree with me? I have yet to see a recent remake of a movie that I've actually liked that will make me change my mind about them (I don't hate all remakes but I only enjoyed the ones from originals I didn't think were that good in the first place).

What songs did you like from my playlist? I haven't added anything to it in ages but these are songs that I still love so I don't plan on changing much of it.

Thanks for the comment man. Nice of U to say that. => I hear U would like to call in, well if U have Skype that is certianly possible. We talk about it on this newset podcast and B and I have also talked "behind the scenes" about "guests hosts" somewhere down the line, so maybe. Right now we have just changed to the weekends so we will see how that goes for a bit.

ROFL.. Shouldn't that be the theme must from CSI?... considering who's on it, Morpheus. But, you can never go wrong with Horatio Caine.

You might say ....* puts on dark glasses* Denzel did his own remake... {exits off stage --cue CSI Miami theme}
