Dan's Movie Reviews: Paranormal Activity (REVISITED)

I have this thing I like to call "post-movie anxiety", where I would just come out of a movie and I would feel the urge to write a review, but the movie experience would cloud my thoughts and judgment. As a result, I wouldn't be able to write as detailed a review as I'd like to, and also, I would show more enthusiasm about the particular movie. This was the case of my Paranormal ActivityContinue

Dan's Movie Reviews: Precious

Ah, the famous Precious. (The full title is Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, but who's going to say all that?) Dan's Retro Reviews: Valley of the Dolls

I found out about this movie, believe it or not, on Courtney Love's MySpace page. She posted a blog that featured some footage from the movie and it intrigued me a bit. Of course, that was over a year ago; I never thought I'd actually see this movie. Surprise, surprise, it's not half bad.

Valley of the Dolls is a 1967 film further emphasizing how fame and drugs go hand in hand. It focuses on three… Continue

Dan's Movie Reviews: A Christmas Carol

Earlier today, I watched Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time, and I debated whether I should review that or A Christmas Carol (or both). I figured everyone already knows about Elm Street, so I chose the latter.

God knows how many movie adaptations of Charles Dickens’ classic novel there are. Apparently not enough because somebody made yet… Continue

Dan's Retro Reviews: Marathon Man

After watching an episode of Clerks: The Animated Series, I decided to check out the movie Marathon Man, since the episode quoted its famous line, “Is it safe?”.

So this movie stars Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier, and it follows a young graduate student/marathon runner as he inexplicably gets involved with secret agents and an evil Nazi dentist. Although it sounds like a plot… Continue

For book lovers. I don't mean comic books or magazines. I mean what people read before being a nerd meant reading stuff in word balloons or foreign movie subtitles. For people that know of books that weren't made into movies.

I've got to say that it's clear we don't have the exact same taste in movies, but I'm really digging your blogs. They are actually some of the better ones around. Keep them coming, I really like how you put them together.

Thanks for the add. I've enjoyed all the music posts you've done. And reading your favorite bands, you got two of my favorites: Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead. If you want to know some good Dead shows, let me know. I've got a bunch.

Don't see Battle Royale. The film is garbage.
Instead, read it. The book, unlike the film, has a stronger message than just blowing kids up.
