Tron was a cult hit back in the 80's and caught the imagination of people so much that everyone was clamoring for more so much they started to do more with computers with stories. They even did a buddy cop show with a FBI agent teaming up with a AI to hunt crime.             Disney took a while to actually make a sequel as the cost of making Tron was immense so they weren't in a rush…
