with a stellar cast including Dustin Hoffman, Nick Noltie, Dennis Farina, and Micheal Gambon HBO brings us Luck. a series of interwoven stories set against the backdrop of a racetrack written and created by David Milch.

two episodes in and i'm hooked. It's Milch at his best and most Shakespearean. the cast is amazing and the dialogue sings. I could switch off the picture and just listen to the dialogue and be happy.

As with The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and now Luck, we should all line up and lovingly tongue the sweat from HBO's feet. It's amazing that this high level quality of television exists. I hope it has a life after this first season.

So far this show is not doing much for me character wise, but it usually takes at leas 6 episodes before I warm up on an HBO show. Though I have to say those horse races are goddam beautiful.

the horse race in the latest episode doubly so
