If it's crap... We'll tell you

During WWII CPT America, Bugs Bunny, Betty Boop and many other comic/cartoon personalities helped in the war effort or had story lines set in the war. Why isn't this the case now? The Global War on Terror has been going on for 8 years now, why don't we have any major story lines connected to the conflicts that America is involved in. Should Bart Simpson be selling war bonds? Should Logan be hunting down the Taliban in Pakistan? Should the Sentinel Program be restarted to hunt down international Terrorists? Maybe I am just ignorant, maybe Bucky is out there in afghanistan right now kicking ass. Please enlighten me o FLAME my ignorance. Your thoughts Gentlemen?

Actually, what you're talking about has been talked about but just not been done yet. Frank Miller has been touting, for better or worse (I'd imagine worse considering his current output), a Batman comic where Batman fights Al-Quaeda. That's really all I know for now, and maybe there's more I don't know about plans with comics with superheroes fighting terrorists over "there".

Then again, comics are having trouble keeping up their own fucked up continuity I imagine Al-Quadea might make it just that much more stranger and harder to control (that, plus I imagine DC and Marvel and those guys are liberal and don't think we should be there, as opposed to WW2 when EVERYONE was pulling together to fight the Japs and the Krauts... so to speak). Plus, if superheroes are fighting terrorists, kids will read this and as their flustered parents, "Why are we over there?" We're pulling out of Iraq soon anyway, and as for Afghanistan, well... it's too long and complicated for a comic book discussion.

I think the closest you'll get to what you're talking about has already happened - in the Iron Man movie.

I completely forgot about the IRONMAN Movie. That was very topical, i remember watching that movie and thinking "hey, thats Bagram Air Force Base!" Then it got lame because he was convoying with the Air Force (his first mistake)

As far as keeping up with the current continuity, I'm thinking a one timer, or What-if comic. remember when Spiderman walked around Ground Zero after 9-11?

Maybe a new hero should be born of all this, but then we already have a super soldier in CPT America and we have a PTSD hero in the Punisher.

All I can say is me and other comic fans in that military feel a little cheated.

thanks for your input

i think a story set in the war would be interesting, and even one with a hero fighting the Taliban, just not like the WWII comics cause they were one sided, and a hero in the war needs to be gray.

i like your idea though.
