If it's crap... We'll tell you

Like LEOG, like many other Spider-man fans, I gave up on the Amazing Spider-Man. Spidey was a character I loved (nah, still love, even though I'm not getting current issues...) and with a big shake-up like the horrendous "One More Day/Brand New Day" thing started up, I had to drop it. it was too much! I vowed to never pick up another issue. I wasn't going to come back for anything short of (1) the Mephisto story was unraveled or resolved, (2) the history with MJ is "real" again and (3) Peter and MJ redeemed for having made a deal with the freaking devil...

Sad day, sad day, sad days.....

However, even though those three things have not happened, the day might be coming where I might actualy pick up an issue of "Amazing". Yeah. I did NOT think it was going to happen, but check out this interview with Dan Slott.

Dan Slott was a writer I loved and felt he'd be a natural for writing Spidey. he made She-Hulk awesome (and funny) be breathed life into Ben Grimm (The Thing) for a bunch of issues (and it was funny) and most importantly, he had written the fantastic era-hopping story "Spider-Man/Human Torch "I'm With Stupid"" series, which covered the rivalry between Spider-Man and Human Torch, which eventually grew to the friendship between Peter Parker and Johnny Storm. It had an ending that makes gives me warm fuzzy thoguths and makes me smile every time I read it. It became one of my favorite superhero stories, and one of my favorite Spidey stories. After reading this for the first time, I knew Dan Slott would have been a natural to write a regular Spidey comic!

Unfortunatly, when he finally got his chance, it was a part under the "Brand New Day" banner.

But anyway, like I said, there's something that may interest me enough to bring me back. At least for a few issues. The upcoming story "Face Front" wherein the FF need Spider-Man for a certain mission.

they go on about some crap that happened in earlier "BND" stories that I never read... however there is stome stuff that REALLY interests me.

What interests me not only relates to "I'm With Stupid" but it seems to finally address that some characters know something is wrong, in this "Brand New Day" world. specifically, the Torch. The end of "I'm With Stupid" Johnny and Peter become such good friends that the FF and the Parkers become something like extended family. That's a close friendship... and so when a demon re-writes time and severs that friendship, they're going to know on SOME level that something is wrong.

(there are preview pages. I don't know if these preview pages they have are "Pre-BND" (because here, Peter is without-mask, and everyone knows him) or "Post-BND" (perhaps Peter revealed his identity in a previous issue I haven't read and will nevre buy...), but as I read these 6 pages out-of-context, I'm pretending that they're a Pre-BND story that I've never read before.)

It ties into one of my favorite stories, and might show cracks in the facade of Mephisto's works. A possible un-doing? Is this the pendulum FINALLY starting to swing the other way? Let's hope so, for Pete's sake.

Call me when everything is fixed. Until then, the title can go #$%@ itself.

I'm hoping, Cyrus, that is story will be the first few rocks that tumble down before the inevitable avalanche of change.

To play it safe, I'll be reading a copy off the shelf before I buy. If it offers some glimmer of hope, some PROOF that the pendulum is starting to swing back the other way, I'll make a note of it and report to LEOG later.

That's fair enough, I get your reasoning here and appreciate it, but I still won't spend any money (and hope no one else will either) until Quesada backslides completely.

personally, i think that spiderman himself should at least remember his history and keep his powers at least , and then he goes on some adventure to save his reality, the end, but no, they just create some alternate silver age era world.

why marvel why, the ends just don't justify the means.

From the stuff I have read online mainly from interviews on ign.com the Gauntlet story has perked my interest. I am one of those readers that just gave up after BND, but I have to say the revitilizing of some classic villians just really gets my interest. They listed Doc Ock, Electro, The Rhino, Mysterio and Sandman. Of all the things I read the ideas they had for the Rhino got my attention. They seem to be looking to give him a emotional angle for why he wants to pulp Spidey. I want to keep away but I think that giving some of the stories a little attention now and then isn't approving of what they did with BND but, I have a hard time punishing new writers that were given a crappy situation to work with.
