Once a year our home town of Austin, Tx is taken over by a huge film event---no, not SXSW--he festival focuses on genre films such as horror, science fiction, fantasy, action, Asian, and cult.-- no, not Buttnumbathon---*sigh* okay, maybe it isn't ONCE a year, but starting at the end of this week FANTASTIC FEST begins!
As that will be going on most of next week as well, the League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen will have a real show dedicated to these types of foreign and domestic B-movies, just to get into the swing of things. And of course, who would we call in as an expert if he weren't already a standing member of the League? Mr. Brian "Steak Pliskin" Salisbury, who'll get to launch hi new segment 'KILLER B's'!
Get your questions in right away and don't forget about BATTLE FOR THE COWL. With Harris gone again this week it might be the only chance the rest of the guys will have to catch up on points.

Okay, try to explain the difference between a "B-movie", a really BAD movie and a movie that is just "cheaply made" but still good?
I've always had a hard time trying to explain the difference to people, so hopefully you'll be able to do a better job at it than I have. But there are some "cheaply-made" movies that don't count as B-movies, and some "B-movies" that had a ton of cash to spend and still ended up being a "B-movie".

what do you think the allure is of B-movies? Why is there such an affection for these less-than-perfect entries into cinema by some?
Love,
C.H. Gorog
P.S. Why is "Asian" a B-Movie genre? Do all foreign films fall under the purview of the "B-movie genre?"

I have always felt B-Movies hold that special place of "You know it when you see it" in society. So I ask, where do you feel the dividing line between A and B movies lie. Is it in the film's production, actors or directors or is there another element a film needs to cross over into the B-movie identity.
Thanks and as always, Long Live the League!!!

Hello Members of the League,
I know I have seen many a B-movie in my time, but my question dives deep into the mind. What do you think is the appeal of the B-movie? Is it their ability to take risks some A-list films won't or are B-movie fans just driven to find the cinematic diamonds in the rough of good (and often times bad) film cuts.
Thanks and as always, Long Live the League!!!

I'm not really a movie guy, so I'd like to know what are you thoughts on true B Movies in modern day cinema? Not remakes, but a movie that's literally sold around one or two concepts and builds something around it with a smaller budget , where do you think it will go? Do you think it will go more like Drive where it's High concept competent stories? or will it slide back into Snakes on a plane where it's all high concept dumb fun? or a smash up of both?

Last October, while looking for horror films to watch on Netflix, I stumbled upon a Thai film called Sick Nurses. Watching it based on the title alone, I found it to be one of the best horror films I've seen, with a really good balance of creepiness and bloody violence.
With that said, what Asian horror B-movies (excluding Japanese horror) do you recommend?
Permalink Reply by Zeek Slider on September 20, 2011 at 1:18am Personal Request That Will Most Likely Get Denied: I hear that Brian hated, and I mean HATED, a four-movie series titled Chillerama. The series advertised itself as four B-movies that were tasteless but original. I'd like to hear Brian's review of each of the four movies, in brief unless something stands out to warrant a rage-filled rant.

Permalink Reply by Stephan on September 20, 2011 at 1:21am Alright, here's a different one, and one I can use as an excuse for promoting Animated Analysis once again(which can be found at Blip.tv, and somewhere a little more well-known to the League shortly).
So, being a large fan of animation and knowing nearly nothing about B-Movies, I'd like to know if there are any animated films you could consider to be a B-Movie? And no, Bee Movie does not count, even though it IS a piece of shit film.
