If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Theredknite posted a statusOn a dark and stormy night, with the light from a busted neon sign filtering through the blinds and jamming us in the eyes like a white hot poker The League of Extremely Hardboiled Gents (and a couple o' dames with gams that won't quit) will gather to bump gums over all the Noir & crime-themed funny books, picture shows and slots that are hittin' on all eights.
Listen up, you mooks. Not ta put the screws to you, but if you're itching to jam us with your inquisitions you'd best do it with plenty of swift. Don't end up behind the eight-ball, otherwise you'll be tripping for biscuits

What component of noir do you enjoy the most in films? Is it the atmosphere, the down and dirty dialog, the sexy ladies or the jazzy score that is always present?
Permalink Reply by Seeker on November 29, 2011 at 12:26pm I see Blacksad up there. I approve. Probably asking multiple questions ([not really]sorry in advance).
What is it about crime films/comics/etc. that manages to make us root for people who are doing illegal and immoral things? Is it just the juxtaposition of the main character with somebody who's even more evil, or is it something more?
What is your favorite line from a noir/crime film?
Why is film noir generally regarded as a genre that only existed within a certain time period? Most places only count something as a straight noir film if it was made between the early 40's and late 50's. Why is the genre confined to one time period, and everything done afterward considered "neo-noir"? To the best of my knowledge, no other genre does this.
Also, do mobs and mafias count as crime, or is that another episode entirely?
Finally, what is your favorite classic (1950's or earlier) Noir/Crime film? Mine is Night of the Hunter.

Dear Members of the Leog,
Long time listener, first time Asker,
Obviously the show Cowboy Bebop, does a great job at combining Noir with the Sci-Fi genre, and creating a dark and gritty atmosphere in a futuristic setting. My question is what other genres of film television or comics, do like seeing characteristics of Noir implemented in and can you name any examples? Thanks for reading. Long Live the League!

Permalink Reply by Seeker on November 29, 2011 at 12:38pm Last one (I swear), who is your favorite crime novelist? I know the reflexive answer is Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammet, or Jim Thompson, but please try to include other (maybe less well known) authors. Like Joe R Lansdale. Can't get enough of his Hap and Leonard series.

Dear League of Enquiringly Outstanding Gentlemen and Dames, which film and/or television writer or comic book writer who has never done noir or crime themed stories do you think would make a great one?

Do you think the banning of any certain products today would create some similar criminal activities, or would people just not allow it in the first place? Do you think any of you would turn to these underground markets for the goods you needed, or would you just try to resist the temptation? Or maybe even head an organization yourself?
