We interrupt our regularly scheduled topic of The Expendables and 80's action movies (we'll get back to that next week) to dive into my favorite movie of the summer:

SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD!

Thing is, your League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen has already done shows covering all the elements of Scott Pilgrim: indie comics, music, anime , videogames...all except one:

L-O-V-E.

The greatest Loves of all and Love when it goes horribly, horribly wrong.

GEEK Love: Romance movies, comic book romances well-done and otherwise;a smattering of what works and what doesn’t in fictional love tropes.

But even better, we'll unlock the secrets of  what works and what doesn’t insofar as courting a geek boy or girl in real life (who knows better than this paired off group, right?) with tales of our greatest triumphs and most agonizing defeats.

Got your questions ready? Well, fire away! Get ready for the LEOG to bring the pain and give you the best Geek dating advice your money has paid for.
It's okay here, tell us your problems.

might check it out then.
And yes, the movie is based on books that are within mainstream continuity. The events are changed slightly and moved about so that it can be a standalone movie, but the basic storyline is canon.
I've been waiting for that movie to come out on netflix for the longest time, I swear it feels like forever!!!
Well this is my third question, I hope im not annoying any of you people, or heaven forbid breaking some sort of unwritten rule about the question posts xD.

Anyways what are the Leagues favorite love songs?

I personally despise all love songs, but found my lack of knowledge towards them is frustrating when I'm in my post-relationship depression. So LEOG enlighten me, what song can I quietly cry to at night :)
Siriusly - Don't sweat it. It's a questions thread. For questions.
I may get back to this one in force but for the record, if you really want to crawl up into a fetal ball and consider everything that has ever gone awry in your love life, look no further than Blood on the Tracks (the entire album) by Bob Dylan. Jesus.

Also, as far a singles: Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division and Train in Vain by the Clash.
what is a good non Foreign romantic comedy that is not 500 days of summer?

Mr.burn notice that movie would be Amelie.

this movie is just funny and awesome.

thanks for such a great pod cast
Dear LEOG,

Like Two-Face's coin, there are two sides to everything; even the wonderful thing we call love.

So put on your Freud and Jung hats and answer me this: What are your favorite movies, books, or comic books that extensively or partially examine the darker side of love and/or major psychological topics related to love and sex (like Eyes Wide Shut, Vertigo, Lolita, Wuthering Heights, etc.)?

Thanks and Long Live The League!

PS I think it would be great if all of you did Barry White impersonations
I think for me it's Philp Kaufman's movies for the win on this one:

Henry and June
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Quills

For comics...welp, pretty much any relationship encountered by Daredevil or Batman...
Dear LEOG

Seeing as that this episode is "Love" I thought that this question would be appropriate.

Pre-girlfriends or even during what comics, games, music, movies, or TV shows do you love? Love being that you will go all out in defending the comics, games, music, movies, or TV shows. An example would Lost- Grant.

Long Live The League Kings of all things Geeky.

PS: Batman Under the Red Hood kicks ass
This is a great question as it illustrates the most salient "fail" point of many "geek" oriented relationships. No one questions the "Non-geek" oppositional paradigms of love EG guys love sports and girls don't (I know plenty of couples where the converse is true BTW), Men are messy, women are fussy (Kristin and I are the EXACT opposite of this FWIW), every girl loves the Princess Bride and every guy loves The Godfather.

Geek couples however don't suffer as much from societal gender roles because a lot of geeky culture is oppositional to societal norms (IE reading comic books can be perceived as "pussy" and playing video games can be seen as "butch" etc.)

However letting your favorites defy compatibility within geek relationships is somehow perceived as palatable.

Dude. If you meet somebody that you think you can love and they might be able to love you too why would you put that aside just because one of you doesn't love "Buffy"??? That's absurd.

Sure, if someone is denigrating a large part of what makes you YOU (IE Geek culture in general, loving movies, comics, music etc.) that's one thing. On the other hand, if you love somebody-they make you laugh and love life-throwing them over for a fandom is practically psychotic.

I love Spider-Man. Kristin is not a big fan. Guess who I love more? Case CLOSED.
In the hystory of movies there has never been a greater love than Rocky and Emily form 3 Ninjas.

Nough Said!
