Welcome to the Anime Corner. Eventually I'll come up with a better name for this and the segment.

ANYWAY!

Here's how this is going to work:

I have a segment to fill. While God knows I have enough old anime and manga to ramble on about, we also want a certain amount of direction and (godhelpusall) fan input. This means you get to ask questions in this thread only. During my segment, I will pick ONE question to answer. Since I'm the one who has to explain my answer to the rest of the podcast, this had better be one damn interesting question or else I'll be illuminating you all on old-school shoujo manga and anime.

That's right. Bring the good questions or the next four segments are going to be about The Rose of Versailles, SWAN, From Eroica with Love and Brother Dear Brother.

I will also be playing favorites. My views on Naruto and Bleach are well known. You can safely assume that unless I get knocked on the head and wake up from a coma with a completely different personality that I'm not gonna answer many (if any) questions about them.

In the mean time I'll be doing my best to bring to light the good stuff that many, if not most of you, have been missing.

I remeber Toonami. There where a few good animes there that I still love, such as Outlaw Star, Big O, and Tenchi. There were a few that don't age very well for me, such as Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam Wing, and DBZ .
good times. never saw the last episode of Yu Yu Hakusho though
Hey Harris i was wondering if you scene Summer Wars it directed by Mamoru Hosoda, other works of his you might know The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The animation itself is done by MadHouse the same studio that animated the japanese anime versions of ironman and wolverine. It is an amazing anime feature and must be scene. There is no way i could praise it enough. Also sorry for any errors in grammar or sentence structure. Long Live the LEAGE.

Hey Harris,

I haven't written in a while and I'm not sure whether the format of the segment is the same but I had a question I wanted to ask regardless.

During times of war, American Comics were sometimes used as a medium for prowar propaghanda. My question is, In Japanese history has there ever been a time when Manga/Anime was used as a platform for political propaghanda ?

Dear Corner

Farewell to the many "most disturbing thing I have ever seen". To the brief life of the beloved gong. To the good natured ribbing that led to the April Fool's joke that would have made Larry David look on in shock!!

Farewell and thanks

Just gives me another reason to despise Naruto.
Naruto is bad but it is more mature than Bleach, because in Naruto protagonists actually die. In Bleach history no protagonist has ever died.
Really? I never got into Bleach either, so I wouldn't know. Doesn't really surprise me though. All I know about Bleach is that there are a lot of Linkin Park AMVs about it.
That's an exceedingly naive viewpoint. "Characters die, so it must be mature!" Character deaths are meaningless unless they have real dramatic weight behind them, and that only happens when you care about the character in question. And from the handful of seasons I've seen of Naruto, I can safely say that I don't.
I will be the first to admit that Naruto has many flaws but it is one of my guilty pleasure mangas, and pre- timeskip I would tend to agree that Naruto is immature. But within the first arc of the post timeskip there is a character that dies and his death does have kind of an impact. Naruto's author has been smart in that he raised the stakes with character deaths that have been spread apart. In Bleach literally no protagonist ever dies.

Naruto has some good characters that I wish had more "screen" time, and Kishimoto is finally making Hinata more prominent than Sakura or all the other annoying chicks. Naruto isn't BAD, nor is it GREAT. It's just good.

How do you feel about the anime/manga made by Yoshihiro Togashi?

Or more, his manga, which can get lazy after a good while. Not in the sense of "Let's kill everybody" lazy, but story and art-wise, which has happened more in Yu Yu Hakusho than Hunter x Hunter.
