I think it is easier to see what roles the nemesis may have been able to play in the manipulation of our Losties. Moreso than the fine tuning Jacob may be doing in the background, touching people before they ever get to the island to horcrux them.
It is true that the writers could pull a big ol' switcheroo on who's good or evil and it may be even more interesting at the end if there is some morally gray finale that splits the viewers into two groups as well...
This will all end up being Jacob and Smokeys $1 bet for social experimentation, ala 'Trading Places'.

Sorry for the edits, I needed to solidify my points.

Grant, you gotta get off this idea that the nemesis has been playing all the pieces on the board. Clearly, if the nemesis had been pulling all the strings, in the season finale Jacob would have told Ben, "I wasn't the one who told you and/or Richard to make Locke leader." Instead, he more or less told Ben, "So what ya whiny bitch?"

I'll buy that Locke has been manipulated from the start but from both sides. Clearly, Jacob had plans for Locke. He brought him back to life in the first part of the season finale and after Ben killed him the first time (with a gun, maybe). Wasn't there a scene where it was foretold that a group of people would be after Locke? All I know is bad things are coming at Jacob's temple.

What's going to be interesting in the final season is how the writers explain Jacob's relationship with "the Others" and how its evolved over the years. Who brought the Dharma initiative to the island? Is it always Jacob who brings people to the island for "the game" with the nemesis? The Others have committed some horrible acts and yet show an undying love for Jacob and are willing to die to keep the island safe. So what's the pay off?

I am still musing over the idea: If the nemesis can use Locke as a loophole then Jacob can use Jack as a loop hole. If so, then it's Jack v. Locke. Is it wrong of me to root for Locke? I am not the biggest Jack fan.

All this time we've been led to believe this is about good v. evil...I dunno I think both Jacob and his nemesis have been equally guilty of some selfish manipulation none of which is good. Let's start with not caring who lived and died from the plane crash (outside the six) unless it truly was Desmond's fault.

All this murder, lies, and manipulation to prove a point...not sure if it was worth it.

Two options to the Mercenaries surviving:
1. One of them could have thrown a grenade, we've seen how explosions push the monster back.
2. The monster knew that some had to live for the sake of the freighter explosion. I doubt Keamy or any of the red shirt mercenaries. would have gone into combat alone.

And hell ya the Nikki and Paulo show was without question the worst episode. The writers were like, "Hey everyone, you know all those fascinating characters you love learning more about each week? Well guess what, forget'em. This week were going to waist an hour with two people who've supposedly been hanging around in the background all this time."

Hell, they should have both had on some of "Survivor's" Red Shirts, because you knew just a few minutes in that neither of them were going to make it out of the episode alive, and couldn't have cared less to boot.

Not to mention the Smoke Monster can shake and rip trees down like King Kong, but for some reason can't kill a few mercenaries. Was anyone else a little confused by any of those guys getting away from the Smoke Monster, much less all of them? I'm referring to when Ben unleashed the monster on the Merc's who shot his daughter. I remember in the episode that happened I just assumed all those guys were toast, but low and behold, in the next episode they were all still alive. How'd they pull that off?

It would take a monster to take out Eko. I liked Mr. Eko he was such a bad ass.

The writers aid Nikki and Paulo were brought on so we can see what the other 30-ish survivors were up to. They did not expect to see such negative backlash (I think that the backlash would have been much less severe if they didn't just have them run and ask whats going on, then get told what to do. That intro they had filmed should have stayed in)

Because Smokey can pick up Eko and beat him to death against a tree.
