Savannah's a great town, but all towns have their bad aspects...
One such aspect is the one thing most visitors and new SCAD first-years had a difficulty with back in the day was the smell of the Paper Mill that was upwind/upriver of the city. Twice a day (and on hot muggy days, seems like all day) the smell of the Paper Mill, that of a big wet smelly fart, would waft over Downtown, the closest part of the city to the River.
It's not fun... but at least you KNOW it wasn't your roomate or the person next to you on the bus who ripped a bad one. (or maybe it was... and he used the paper mill as an excuse?)
Don't worry though, if you spend enough time downtown, you WILL get used to it. By spring of my first year I stopped noticing it. It's not so bad once you get used to it.
