Permalink Reply by Mr. E on February 21, 2012 at 11:54am Another fun listen guys, and you should be happy with the specials you've done, as you do a great job with'em. I think one of my favorites was the War movie special.
As far as Paul not liking Dazed and Confused...
God dam, I LOVE that fucking movie. Other than the scenes when they're getting paddled by the seniors I can draw a parallel to something that occurred during my High School years to everything that happens in that flick. It came out while I was in the Navy, and I think I saw that movie in the theater in Long Beach at least 15 times with different guys from my ship, and laughed my ass off every time. There are just SO many great moments in that flick.
So ya know, whatever.. Just keep LIVIN... :-)

Permalink Reply by Scrump Bolymeux on February 21, 2012 at 11:04pm I've said this before somewhere on Spill, but unlike everybody else I wasn't bothered by a live action American Akira remake only because there's no way it'd be able to survive under the shadow of, well... Akira. Just because Otomo's movie is an animation doesn't make it any less of a film. It's a ground breaking master work that any remake, no matter how good, will forever be held against the history the original made. Whoever the poor bastard was that'd have helmed the live action counterpart would've shat themselves when it'd hit them mid way through production...
"... I'm directing the live action remake of Akira..."
As for other Otomo creations he presented and directed the third segment for Memories. I haven't seen it but it looks damn good.
And yeah, that Beyond the Black Rainbow looks fucking amazing.

Guy Pearce is great, obviously, just don't watch Don't Be Afraid of the Dark! he gave a better performance as Mike in Neighbours lol
