Shield of Frozen Injustice posted a statusDsytopian futures always seems to have consistently bad taste in fashion...someone was bitter about fashion week in NYC.
When US Government led by the Commander in Chief, George Bush invaded Iraq in a quest for Fool's Gold, NYC was in such disharmony that it made the Occupy Wall Street farce look tame by comparison. The economy was already going into the shitter. Protests raged daily at Union Square, an apropos place in the tradition of many leaders in noble protests for centuries. I don't think I ever felt this feeling of hatred for being light skinned...and yet, it was light skinned caucasians who were outspoken...and lower East Side was vandalized with Graffiti, "American Imperialism..."
I'm no stranger to our meddling in other countries. My father was a vietnam vet who married a "war bride." My mother has stories of when the communists took over Saigon. They stripped her of her lands, business, and family wealth and sent her to live in "Economy housing." Her neighbors who didn't agree to leave were lined up outside their homes and shot in the skull one after another. My mother never told me that story. It was my older sisters who at age 6 and 7 remembered seeing the horrific sounds of gunfire and pile of corpses.
The late great Kurt Vonnegut Jr (and my personal hero) once said, "There's nothing you can do with the nightmares that haunt you...other than writing about it, wrestling the demon, and hoping that someone will be enlightened by our daily struggles."
And it's the Hunger Games where we see the concept in America, we send our youth to die as entertainment or to quote U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday, "When fact is fiction and TV reality..."
I wonder, what if my daughter had to go to war? I watcher her a kid reading comic books, watching the Little Mermaid...would I recognize her if she was trained and ordered to kill at will? I've bagged and tagged over 70 bodies in my travels. Dealt with murderers but take a life? How would I feel about that...I wonder and I fear.
Disappointed that it wasn't a story about 90s artists unable to make enough to fill their stomachs before the money broom of '95 swept them to White Plains, NY.
FAQ #1: Why Friday? A: I felt I was alienating a good portion of our group by constantly putting B&Vs on Saturday. NYers work crazy schedules and I am no stranger to that. So excluding .5s, I wanted to alternate Fri/Sat starting Jan 2012. So last month, the meet up was well, technically Sunday but this month, we' put it on Friday.
