Pierce did belong where Tim Dalton was, but Tims adaptation of Bond is extremely accurate to the book Bond & not the Connery film Bond that he set as the standard. Just Tim was trying to do what Daniel is doing now for an audience that is ready for the book Bond. Hence why Tim was never really liked- a mentally torn spy in an era of blood lusting movie generation...just didnt mix well.
