Favorite animation that is not from the States... or Canada, let's say Russia and Japan!

Mine are The Tree and the Cat, a Soviet animation that deals with loneliness and the consequences of love and companionship. Anime-wise? I loved the Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade, a Mamoru Oshii written film, with themes of obedience and Japan's apologetic WWII undertones.
