If it's crap... We'll tell you

All right gang.... let's have it out here and now. Let's see who can counter my issues with the movie. And, if you don't know what they are... here they are for you to study up on and present your case.

1) While I found it an ‘enjoyable’ movie, and possibly one of the 3 best Comic-Book “genre” movies over the last few years that doesn't make it one of the 'greatest' movies of 2008.

2) I still don’t think that Nolan is capable of directing good action scenes.

3) The Dark Knight is filled with example after example after example of the characters either saying “I’m going to do this”, or they are saying “I just did that”. So, that’s another minus because the actors OWN actions aren’t enough to tell the story without it being explained to you.

4) Third, I’ve had a problem all along with Morgan Freeman’s character of Fox being almost nothing more than just a ‘Token’ black guy that is put into the role of a ‘Yessa Masta’ type of mindset.
Batman “Make me a new suit”
Fox “Yessa Masta”
Batman “Go ahead and make all the cell phones into a Sonar-device”
Fox “Yessa Masta”
Batman “Before you turn off the lights, destroy the computer system”
Fox “Yessa Masta”

Caine's talents are wasted too.

4) The BLATANT and OBVIOUS flaws regarding logic for the ‘crime fighting’ aspects.

5) Other Logical flaws regarding SWAT and Sonar... I'll take those separately.

6) Then of course we get to Jim Gordon….. the so called, “Good Cop” in a “Bad Town”.

The Joker’s character traits in The Dark Knight were done properly…. I’ll admit that one. He’s completely crazy with no sense of moral or ethical guidelines.

7) BUT, and the performance of Heath Ledger SUCKED.

8)Arron Eckhart was MUCH better than anyone else in The Dark Knight, yet he gets almost ZERO credit for the job he did.

9) Fanboys going on and on about the 3rd movie.

10) Fanboys LOVE The Dark Knight, and the fact that it seems to be cool (or at least ‘accepted’) to either hate Batman Begins, or at very least to think of Batman Begins as a LESSER film.

11) Fanboys desire to continue praising Ledger, when over half of them were the same people going “I don’t know about that” when it was announced he was going to be playing the Joker. (Okay, I should add this one onto Point 7--- but it's been treated as 2 different subjects now.)

12) As far as the people bitching about not being Nominated for the Oscars?

So, there you go. My problems with The Dark Knight. Once again, I find it an 'enjoyable' film, but not anywhere close to being the 'greatest'

Either ask for further clarification, or go to here for further details.

*laughs uncontrollably*

You know, I don't think any less of you for having an opinion (and a different one at that.) In fact, I think I like you more that you actually don't worship the film like it's some sort of Buddha.

I did read it. That's why I said what I said.

Seriously? How am I trying to make people hate me? I simply stated my problems with the movie, and wanted someone to show up and discuss those problems. That means I'm looking to make people hate me? Of course not, it's simply saying that I have problems with the movie and don't naturally assume that it's as great as you think it is. Maybe if you were to try and discuss something with me, I'll start to see your reasoning behind thinking it's all that great, but I just don't. I see it as a decent movie that's enjoyable, but not one of the best movies ever filmed.

What I do agree with your theory man I didn't know that's so bad.

Yes, I agree with #2 that he's improved since Batman Begins... just not that 'great'. Hey, maybe if he let the assistant director, or asked for someone to come in and film those parts it would have been better.... I don't know.

While I think he's not the best director for action around, he IS improving.... which is saying a lot. =)

#3 --- I see your point. Just personally I don't think it's translated well on film when it's done.

#4 - We'll agree to disagree with Freeman. I think he's character should have been a little more assertive in his views.

#5 - I was talking about the OTHER people... like the Police SWAT team. The sonar-device just wouldn't work for various technical reasons.

#6 I'll have to do later when i'm not so tired. =(

#7 I've never liked Ledger... so yes, there's a LARGE amount of personal opinion on that one. While I didn't find him to be 'bad', I just don't see the greatness that everyone wants to pile on him. Especially when 1/2 the people going on about how 'great' he was, are the same 1/2 that were going "I don't know if he's the best choice" before filming started.

#8 - Thanks. =)

#9 - See, it's not easy is it? LOL

#10 - More of a personal opinion regarding the constant rumors and "What should the next Villain Be' type of things. Maybe a more accurate way of saying it would be: Why are there so many people already trying to plot and cast the 3rd movie instead of taking time to enjoy the 2nd movie and all it's success?

#11- It's not bad hype, and I'll agree with that. I have a problem (However) with people trying to compare Ledger with Pacino, DeNiro, Brando, and other Legends after 1 performance. Sorry, but the 'legendary' actors were able to provide us with one great performance after another for DECADES, and not just ONE character role.

#12 - See, that's my problem (Now anyway). All this 'outcry' about not being nominated. Well, sorry gang. But if I can sit back in the audience and go "wait a moment", isn't it obvious that the people in charge of nominating and voting on who gets Oscar-Nomination will also be able to sit back and go "Wait a moment"?

Even though i love TDK and it's my favorite movie right now.I have to say i agree with you i dont think it's the greatest film of the world there are much more movies to be made.I agree 98% with you the times i dont agree is Heath Legders acting didn't suck it was good just a little more from being great and the other one is Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine did make great acting not just have Morgan as a token black guy or Michael as a butler they were very great. There you have it what i agree and disagree with you

Which is fine. I doubt seriously that we will ever be able to change the opinions of the film other people have, and I'm not trying to.

I guess, if nothing else. I'm seriously trying to get people to realize that as enjoyable as the Dark Knight is... Well, that shouldn't be taken for an assumed 'Greatness' to be attached to the film for what it does (Or doesn't do) for the ART of film-making in general. There were no new camera tricks, nothing new for camera-angles... Make-up wasn't revolutionary, the CGI was never going to change the industry, the writing of the script isn't going to make all movies better.

It's enjoyable movie.... and I've said that more than once.

It's just not the greatest movie ever made.

cmon man that guy raised the bar in portraying villains

Yeah you're absolutely right man. What you want MDS, the 1960's Ceasar Romero version, or the "Killing Joke" style version? I don't want that over-the-top shit.
