All right gang.... let's have it out here and now. Let's see who can counter my issues with the movie. And, if you don't know what they are... here they are for you to study up on and present your case.
1) While I found it an ‘enjoyable’ movie, and possibly one of the 3 best Comic-Book “genre” movies over the last few years that doesn't make it one of the 'greatest' movies of 2008.
2) I still don’t think that Nolan is capable of directing good action scenes.
3) The Dark Knight is filled with example after example after example of the characters either saying “I’m going to do this”, or they are saying “I just did that”. So, that’s another minus because the actors OWN actions aren’t enough to tell the story without it being explained to you.
4) Third, I’ve had a problem all along with Morgan Freeman’s character of Fox being almost nothing more than just a ‘Token’ black guy that is put into the role of a ‘Yessa Masta’ type of mindset.
Batman “Make me a new suit”
Fox “Yessa Masta”
Batman “Go ahead and make all the cell phones into a Sonar-device”
Fox “Yessa Masta”
Batman “Before you turn off the lights, destroy the computer system”
Fox “Yessa Masta”
Caine's talents are wasted too.
4) The BLATANT and OBVIOUS flaws regarding logic for the ‘crime fighting’ aspects.
5) Other Logical flaws regarding SWAT and Sonar... I'll take those separately.
6) Then of course we get to Jim Gordon….. the so called, “Good Cop” in a “Bad Town”.
The Joker’s character traits in The Dark Knight were done properly…. I’ll admit that one. He’s completely crazy with no sense of moral or ethical guidelines.
7) BUT, and the performance of Heath Ledger SUCKED.
8)Arron Eckhart was MUCH better than anyone else in The Dark Knight, yet he gets almost ZERO credit for the job he did.
9) Fanboys going on and on about the 3rd movie.
10) Fanboys LOVE The Dark Knight, and the fact that it seems to be cool (or at least ‘accepted’) to either hate Batman Begins, or at very least to think of Batman Begins as a LESSER film.
11) Fanboys desire to continue praising Ledger, when over half of them were the same people going “I don’t know about that” when it was announced he was going to be playing the Joker. (Okay, I should add this one onto Point 7--- but it's been treated as 2 different subjects now.)
12) As far as the people bitching about not being Nominated for the Oscars?
So, there you go. My problems with The Dark Knight. Once again, I find it an 'enjoyable' film, but not anywhere close to being the 'greatest'
