I'm sure everybodys noticed that nearly every fighting game character falls into some kind of stereotype, examples are:
The Protagonist
Usually male and Japanese, You might get the odd exeption, e.g. DOA.
Examples: Ryu (SF), Jin Kazama (Tekken), Kasumi (DOA), Yugo (Bloody Roar), Kyo (KOF), Akira (VF), Batsu (Rival Schools),.Chuji Wu (Tobal).
The Ninja
Speaks for itself
Examples: Yoshimitsu, Raven, Kunimtsu (Tekken), Taki (Soul Blade/Calibur), Kasumi, Ayane, Hiyabusa, Hayate (DOAs full of em!), Ibuki (SF), Kage Maru (VF), Chip Zanuff (Guilty Gear), Bakuryu (Bloody Roar), Hyoma (Kensei: Sacred Fist).
The Bruce Lee
No fighting game is complete without a Bruce Lee clone (lol)
Examples: Law (Tekken), Fei Long (SF), Jann Lee (DOA), Maxi (Soul Calibur).
Small girl that looks weak but can totally kick your ass
My favorite!
Examples: Ling Xiaoyu (Tekken), Alice (Bloody Roar 1-3, they matured her in later games), Talim (Soul Calibur), Seung Mina (In Soul Blade only, they matured her in the Soul Caliburs), Uriko (Bloody Roar), Yuri (Art of Fighting, KOF), Sakura (SF), Saya (Kensei: Sacred Fist)
Old dude
Looks can be deceptive
Examples: Wang Jinrei, Heihachi (Tekken), Gen Fu (DOA), Gen (SF), Shun Di (VF), Edge Master (Soul Calibur).
Femme Fatale
Usually an assassin of some sort.
Nina and Anna (Tekken), Sofia (Battle Arena Toshinden), Christie (DOA), Sarah (VF), Ivy (Soul Calibur).
The Powerhouse
Sometimes a wrestler, almost always male.
Potemkin (Guilty Gear), Rock (Soul Blade/Calibur), Bayman, Leon, Bass (DOA), Zangeif (SF), Wolf, Jeffry (VF), Mitsuko, Ganesha (Bloody Roar), Mary (Tobal).
There are some that cant be categorised because they are so unusual (Like most Guilty Gear characters), can anybody think of any unusual fighting game characters or can name another stereotype category?.
