The Friars Club postponed Friday's roast of Quentin Tarantino yesterday after the death of Tarantino's longtime film editor, Sally Menke, 56. Menke died hiking in LA on Monday, when the temperature hit 113 degrees. The duo worked together for most of Tarantino's career, on movies including "Reservoir Dogs," "Pulp Fiction" and "Inglourious Basterds." "He said that she was like a mother to him," said roastmaster Jeffrey Ross, who was with Tarantino at the Friars yesterday. "We had a brotherly drink, and I gave him a hug. I made him laugh -- I told him, 'Keep your chin up, I know with a chin like that it's a lot to ask.' " The roast -- featuring Harvey Weinstein, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Sarah Silverman, Kathy Griffin, Harvey Keitel,Pam Grier, Michael Madsen and Samuel L. Jackson -- will happen next month. Ross said, "It will be even better in five weeks when he's ready to laugh."
