With Russel T. Davis (who did a great overall job, in my opinion) leaving the show and Steven Moffat taking over (who's written some of the best damned Dr. Who ever) WHAT are some of your "dream things" that you'd like to see in the new series?
My top 3:
3) River Song: the most fascinating character to be introduced in Dr. Who mythos in the new series. Someone who was intimately familiar with a FUTURE incarnation of the Doctor. This incarnation could be the new 11th Doctor... (however, if so, I'd like it if River Song wasn't just a companion to that Doctor. It'd be cool if she knew/met/traveled with more than one incarnation. In "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" it was implied that (a) she became someone the Doctor trusted implicitly... moreso than any other companion in the past and (b) that she knew the Doctor had many incarnations. So I hope this character is a mainstay (much like the Brigadier or Sarah Jane, and possibly CAptain Jack) in Doctor Who mythos going forward.
2) Flashbacks/and-or TIME WAR. I don't mean go crazy with them like "Lost", but DAMMIT I want to see some TIME WAR stuff! Dammit, I want to see Gallifrey in it's heyday! (if they can do it with BSG and Caprica, I want to see it with Doctor Who & Gallifrey!) Dammit, I want to see Paul McGann regenerating into Christopher Eccleston! (Hell, after the Audio Adventures, Paul McGann totally redeemed the 8th Doctor from that less-than-good 1996 TV Movie. I WANT MORE PAUL MCGANN!)
1) A true and proper Multi-Doctor Story. I know that these never seem to measure up, quality-wise, story-wise, to regular Dr. Who episodes... but dammit, they are so much fun. And I think the only reason past Multi-Doctor stories never quite measured up was becuase the writers of the time treated them more like "novelty" stories and didn't take them terribly seriously. Since the show has come back, there have been equally whimsical "novelty" stories that started out using a standard Sci-Fi Trope making me think "Oh, OK, this is the "What if the doctor never existed" episode and then ended up REALLY FREAKING EMOTIONAL and POIGNANT. ("Turn Left"? hello?)
So I think a Mutli-Doctor story can be done, I think it can be done well and dare I say if handled correctly (in this age of television where gimmicks can be used in a REALLY smart way) could be one of the best episodes made.
