If it's crap... We'll tell you

Final Crisis #3: I barely know how to review this. Its not like your typical superhero comic let alone an event comic. Its dense. You can't just read through it. You really need to fucking read every line of this. You need to take time to understand whats going on, because this shit moves fast. Its not about glorious superhero battles and dignified ends for characters. Its ugly. Its dirty. Its dark. I love it.

First let me recap my feelings on this polarizing event. I really liked the first issue for the beautiful art and setting up an atmosphere. It didn't feel like it was moving slow to me, just set-up like I would expect from any first issue. The second issue blew me away. It took the set-up and exploded into interesting developments in seconds. Bad shit happening left and right to the heroes of the DCU and they seemed so powerless to stop it. Now that is just elevated even more this issue.

This issue has a lot more groundwork being laid for future plot points like the first issue. I hope it follows pattern that the next issue will wow me even more than the second. Even with all the set-up scenes this issue it doesn't feel nearly as "slow" as the first issue due to an overwhelming sense of doom and urgency flooding the pages. What stands out this issue is a great opening with Frankenstein and the Question, a ghastly new envisioning of Mary Marvel, the anti-life equation being sent out to the world in a very creative way, a devastating virus is introduced to earth, and the superheroes emergency plan of action. Also, Morrison writes Wonder Woman perfectly, which is good since she is the main character this issue. And the ending is a great cliffhanger. Oh! What they did to Wonder Woman!

J.G. Jones art continues to disappoint when compared to the first issue which is well... disappointing. Fortunately his real strength is in his creative panel arrangements. And I'm not saying the art is bad, in fact its pretty great most of the times. There are just a few moments where its kinda weak. The Supergirl cover for this issue is great. One of, nay, the best depiction of Supergirl I've ever seen.

I almost want to give this issue a 5/5 because its so much fun to think about after reading it and look for more things I missed the first time. But, it does have a lot of set-up which hopefully will pay off tenfold over the next couple issues. Also it is pretty depressing but I can't leave now, gotta stick it out for the happy ending. There is gonna be a happy ending right? C'mon Grant?

Rating 4/5: For fucking with my sub conscience and making it hard to sleep

And thats it for me this week. Later than I usually have reviews up and I usually do more but fuck it. Okay... Nightwing had a great scene with Two-Face this week and I also got Tor because I like Joe Kuberts art. Its ok.
