Ambush Bug Year None #1: This is a book I can see people really hating. Its not you're typical DC superhero comic, more like the MAD version of it. Basically Ambush Bug pops around DC comics lore unwittingly setting off event books and meeting superheros illegitamite daughters. Oh yeah hes investigating the death of Jonni DC the continuity cop. Theres a villian named Argh!yle and its a magic sock that Ambush Bug abandoned. Starting to get a feel of what this might be like? Also he ends up on Earth-6 where it stayed the 60s forever, and chats with Egg Fu and Ace the Bathound. Its Keith Giffen writing and hes done a series with this character in the past. I haven't read it and it took me a while to warm up to this book but I can confidently say I liked it. It pokes fun at DC and comics in general. Giffen packs his books full of snarky dialogue and they are in no way a quick read. Good value.
Rating 3/5 for Ace the Bathound!

Green Lantern Corps #26: The final issue of the epic Ring Quest story. I get a distinctly 90s feel from this book. Every issue feels like its own segment of the story and those segments are not supposed to overlap. It has its action issues, and its set up issues. It uses exaggerated action and a bunch of weapons and great uses of black and.... wow. Its cool. Its well written, with appropriate art, enough out there ideas and surprises, and an appropriately brutal fight with the villain of this piece, Mongul. Everything comes together for something that is greater than the sum of its parts. This book encapsulates the cool sci-fi atmosphere that makes Green Lantern special. Its manages to be consistant with the universe of the main Green Lantern book but tell more action packed war stories. That said there was a scene in the beginning that I didn't quite understand and that isn't the first time thats happened in this story.
Rating 3/5 for the insect lantern Bzzd

Superman #678: Robinson build the foundation for his run. Theres good moments here for Jimmy, Lois, Clark, and Krypto. The new science police... I'm not sure if I'll be able to warm up to them as much as I'm supposed to. I think it would help if they were more memorable and a large part of that is the designs on them. I can't tell them apart when they're all in uniform. This issue is the start of the Atlas vs. Superman fight that was promised last issue. I think all of two blows are landed. The real story are the hints at Atlas' motivations and his life in the past. Its not clear yet whats going on with Atlas or where the run will go from here. Its good but somewhat underwhelming. Still waiting for some real payoff. We're two issues in to Robinsons run on Superman. So far hes been focusing on characters other than Superman with the first being devoted to the Science police and this being devoted to Atlas. With these characters now having solid enough introductions hopefully he can do something powerful with them next issue.
Rating 3/5 for another great Alex Ross cover

And the leftovers.
Birds of Prey #119 was decent but setting up an unnecessary fight between two heroes.
Wolverine #66 has Old Man Logan off to a promising start.
Wonder Woman #22 was decent.
X-Men Legacy #213 was awesome for parts with Mr. Sinister and lame for parts with Gambit.
Uncanny X-Men #499 was ok but all the shits happening in 500 so yeah, its been treading water as they say.

Oh yeah and my review for the Dark Knight. It kicks ass.
