So I just got done watching a really messed up french film called Martyrs. I was so blown away with the blood, gore and story of the movie I wonder what other messed films are out there. So does anyone know of some really messed up foreign films I should watch?

I've heard about this other French horror movie called "Inside" which is meant to be really fucked up but I can't actually find it any where. It sounds great though. And also, it's not really a horror, but the film "Irreversible" is a really harrowing watch, It left me reeling for days afterwards.

Martyrs was really messed up. I thought it was pretty solid until the last 1/3 of the movie, which lost my attention.
A lot of foreign horror is really fucked up, especially French films.
If you can get your hands on Inside, that's a perfect example. I pretty much decided after that I didn't really need to watch it again because once was overwhelming enough.
Also, it's not really a horror film but Irreversible is pretty insane. Also a French film.
A lot of Japanese films are crazy: Gozu, Yakuza, Oldboy...
Dario Argento has a lot of pretty insane visuals in his films, like Suspiria and Opera.
Tessa, I do agree with you about last 1/3 of the movie of Martyrs. I have seen the inside which I do love by the way. Irreversible is one of those movies I've heard so much about but never seen and plus I'm having a hard time finding at blockbuster, Maybe I need to get Netflix. haha. Thanks
I don't know if you mean only messed up foreign horror films, but I have watched IZO.
From the IZO wikiepedia page:
IZO is a 2004 Japanese film, directed by Takashi Miike. The main character of the film is Izo Okada (1832–1865), the historical samurai and assassin in 19th century Japan who met a tragic end: he was tortured and crucified.
**SPOILER ---- Most messed up moment from IZO
IZO has sex with his Mother and slices her in half from horizontally below the ribcage while she is holding on to to upright bamboo trees her guts spill out while she is still alive talking to him.
Well...if you guys heard the CoCo from last week....I dont know about you, but that Human Centepede movie Corey was talking about did sound kinda...what's the word??? Fucked up.
I also heard one that's called Feed, though I think its an underground american film....not sure. Haven't seen neither though I might one day if I work up the courage.
Well.... as someone who lists Martyrs as one of her favorite films, might tell you something about my frame of mind! :P You might try High Tension, if you haven't already, its also French.
There is a Japanese film called Men Behind the Sun that you might want to check out. Or you might not... The review at IMDB calls it the "sickest", "most controversial" and "most gruesome" movie ever made. It sure has scenes you have to look away from.
I'd always heard of Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom - looked for it for a long time before I found a copy. I'd always heard it was the WORST (and by worst, I mean best) really fucked up film out there. I was expecting a lot, and I was kind of let down, but don't let that stop you from giving it a go.
Well hope I gave you some new ideas. I'll see if I can think of anything else.
Try out the story of ricky it is not really a horror movie more like kung fu but it is gory as all get out. Killer condom was a crazy ass german movie. i always have great ideas in my head but when i go to type them i cant remember shit
OK I gotta mention Cannibal Holocaust, and Italian exploitation flick that I saw a few nights ago. Banned in Italy when it came out in 1980, the director was arrested because the murders in the film were beleived to be real and the movie a snuff film. Apparently he was only found not guilty when the actors were actually produced for the court. While watching the movie, I was struck by how realistic teh animal killings were and later I read that they were indeed real. They scene where they gutted a turtle were especially gruesome, and the monkey killings were incredibly sickening when you think they were real.
Anyway if you enjoy this sort of thing, this will be right up your alley.
