A scathing spoof that deals with racism, sexism, and bodily functions, Blazing Saddles offers a contrast between picture and words that is shocking, subversive, and hilarious. Do you feel that the film encouraged racism or do you think Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor were mocking and deflating it? It's a debate while has continued for over 30 years.
I think the movie made amazing strides in terms of race relations, and the subject matter was unique to it's time. You certainly couldn't get away with a movie like this in 2009, but luckily we have Blazing Saddles to look back on and appreciate. It was a brave, ground-breaking and ultimately socially progressive film.
