Well there are 4 movies. The first 3 being a retelling of the first half of the series and the last one being a completely new movie.
The first movie was just released in Japan and sadly we won't get it until late next year. Which by that time all 4 movies will be out in Japan.
Rumors also indicate that the series might actually be set after EoE and is a weird alternate universe made by Shinji. The weird and sad thing about that is since it's Evangelion that doesn't sound so weird.
Thats just the basic run down and if you have anymore questions just ask.
oh yea! (im a HUGE eva fan)
after seeing the first one, i am officially sold on this project. even though 2/3 of the movie is an HD remake of the first four eps, its the last third where they start changing stuff. whats amazing is that the changes feel very realistic to the story line, and offer a really fasicnating retelling of one of the best animes ever. the movies are never gonna replace the TV series in terms of impact, but its still great to see EVA back, and in an unfamiliar, yet very correct and cool way.
I found Rebuild rather underwhelming thus far. Do we really need a remake to Evangelion? The original is a classic, and should be left alone. I would be all for the project if it was a different director with an entirely new vision, but so far this just feels like Anno milking his cash cow to kick start his new animation company. Very dissapointing. Hopefully the second episode will change my mind.
