If it's crap... We'll tell you

....SUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS.

Ryuk sounds like an emo kid and I know the VA who is Light but he is SO NOT the image. The original seiyuu is much better, and I must say that although the movie was garbage compared to the TV show/manga, the actor that played Light was better. At least better than the trash I heard on [as] last night.

Speaking of which, little-known trivia....the same actor that played Light in Deathnote's movies is the same guy who played the main protagonist in Battle Royale 1&2. He's gotten older but he's still handsome to me.

Well all things considered, it turned out a lot better than most people thought. Including me-but then again I am a lot more lenient on these types of things than most people.

I've gotten jumped and forced to watch an entire season of a subtitled Yu-Gi-Oh for claiming the Saturday morning version was awesome.

I just don't have problems with dubs, I always looked at it as an automatic bias when one prefers one over the other. But my ignorance is probably attributed to lack of exposure >:-D

No no no.....I am the SAME way.

I loved Bebop, Wolf's Rain, and other dubs. I actually think some dubs are BETTER than the subtitled versions.

It's just for every GREAT dub (like Evangelion, Bebop, Slayers, etc.) you have an absolute shit one like Tenchi Muyo!, DBZ (pre-Buu Saga), and....*shivers*.....Love Hina.....

Also, the characters just DON'T match the voices. Like I said, they made Ryuk sound like some emo kid thrill-seeker. If you read the manga, see the movie, see the subbed version, even THINK about the tone of the story and the main themes behind it.....it's just inappropriate.

Oy I'd be remiss as a critic if I didn't say something was a bit off with Tenchi Muyo. If we're talking about the same one that showed up on cartoon network a couple of years back. Great story but some of the voices were either annoying or didn't stand out as much as they should have.

Love Hina was cool though, I found the dub quite entertaining in a shrewd laughing at a person that just fell sense heh. For a true test of your patience watch bottle faeries, I sing the opening theme song on a weekly basis.

It's about 30-some-odd eps. It's very very faithful to the manga, unlike the movies. However, I think the ending was more satisfying in the manga. That is all I will say without giving away too much--I almost spoiled it for a dude still reading it talking about it in a comic book store....

yea the japanese version is SOOO much better. i mean, the dub i dont think is terrible, but compared to the japanese version, its irrelevant.

I actually enjoy the dub for deathnote. it's not as bad as the 4kids dub of one piece

i dont think it is humanly possible to make a dub worse than the 4kids one piece dub.

You are right. Love Hina, Shaman King, and One Piece are all the WORST. DUBS. EVER.

But if you watch Deathnote the way it was meant to be watched, and see the movies/read the manga....the voices just don't make you BELIEVE in how crazy Light is, or how amused Ryuk is at humanity, etc....

The 4kids One Piece was not just a dub, it was almost a complete re-edit.

As for the Death Note dub, I'm sure there are valid reasons for not liking it, but the majority of critisism I've heard is, "The dub sucks because I don't like dubs."

Allow me to politely disagree with you HardcoreSouma, I do in fact see how amused Ryuk is, for Brad Swail really sounds like he's having fun with the character. As for Light, I wouldn't say he's any worse or any better than the Japanese, all it is is a different approach to the character. In the Japanese, Light is voiced in a way that you could tell right off the bat that he was going to be the villain, the english light on the other hand sounds a little more like the average teenager, making him somewhat likable at first, which in turn makes you hate him all the more once you find out how evil he is.

And L...That's a tough character to play no matter what language you're speaking, and the english guy pulls it off perfectly once he sounds like he's comfortable with playing him.

Personally, I was okay with most of the voices. However, when I heard Near's dub voice, I was immediately unable to connect with the anime any longer.
