Was there anime which built up all this suspence or goodness and just failed to give it a good bang at the end.
The anime doesn't even have to be bad, it just has to not deliver all the goodness it promised at the end.
To me Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid did it the worst for me. Definitely the best in the series with its drama and darkness, the show ended on a very light childish note for me.
Sorry to say but Neon Genesis-Eva
The series was amazing and held you in suspense for hours upon time. The ending was a fucking cop out and so was the movie, both still were amazing but shitty at the same time. Why do japanese love a tragedy so much I will never know.
Also was Cowboy Bebop the last few episodes pissed me off so bad. A meaningless battle where most of the characters die and nothing gets resolved except revenge.
"I would include tri gun but that whole series sucked"
Akira- Loved the movie till the broken words at the end left you hanging.
Cowboy bebop did leave a lot of loose strings, and also seemed like it was rushing to end the series. I thought it was great, but they could have wrapped things up a lot better-at least for character development sake
Its not that I am a sap and love a -lets hold hands- reading rainbow-endings, (hell- I loved wolfs rain ending)but I think NGE and Bebob-(tri-gun) all had a somewhat cop out ending. Maybe I didn't receive the full understanding of what the artist were trying to portray but thats just me. Didn't like it. Don't want to know why.
Full Metal Alchemist-worst ending ever. The series was fantastic, how they could come to such a crappy conclusion is beyond me. Maybe I should see the movie, like they keep telling me....
Wolfs Rain-Too poetic for its own good, and yet another great series that kind of went downhill when it ended. The ending will satisfy many, but after what I had come to expect of the series, it seemed like a really cheap nirvana.
Dragon Ball series- Hey I'm not complaining, since like 80 percent of the series sucked, so I guess it was no surprise that the ending was equally sucky
Avenger- It was such an up and down anime, that played on some very original ideas. It was borderline average, and seemed to steal a lot of dramatic effect from well known animes that came before it. However, the ending made this average anime complete trash. The main character (female) was done no justice at all as her ending character development couldn't have been any more cliche
Trigun- Another average to above average one that had not one last bad episode, but quite a couple. This one went downhill I say in the last 4-5 episodes
I could not disagree more with what just about everyone is saying. Loved Trigun (but maybe because I read the manga), loved DBZ's TRUE ENDING, NGE was more than appropriate to me....and I just think Cowboy Bebop is the best anime I've ever seen. I could go on for HOURS about the background symbolism, the significance of names, places, the social commentary, etc. It's the absolute perfect series top to bottom IMHO.
As for me.....like I said in another topic Witch Hunter Robin...Full Metal Panic (including Fumoffu and the sequel) was all-around silly and quickly lost its appeal for me. I don't like silliness that isn't necessary. What about Gungrave? It didn't match the video game and it wasn't as moving as I thought it would be. Also X. If it wasn't for one choice character, I would have hated X.
I thought Gungrave was okay, but I didn't play the video game. If anything, the second half of the series was all around cracky with the edition of the creatures brought back from the dead...hearing "Beyond the Grave" over and over in Japanese was sooooo annoying... But the ending was okay just because it brought everything back around with Brandon being able to forgive Harry before they die (I think that was the point any way...).
I didn't like the ending of Trigun though... sure there was a big battle, but nothing seemed concluded to me.... I don't know....
I agree with Wolf's Rain being disappointing at the end. I've always heard that there is different ending, but I don't think the rumor is true.
I just got tired of DBZ. I was probably most disappointed with the build up of how great Gohan was supposed to be, but then you get to GT and the focus completely switches... Not that I've watched the whole series....how does it end anyway?
