Hmm, Ghost in a Shell. It is one of those films that when I first saw I was like 'cool effects'

Then I watched it again, and I was like heyy, I didn't know this, this, and that.

Watched it a couple of times and it is a deep, involving film. My brother who doesn't even watch anime bought the dvd for his collection.

I haven't watched many anime movies so that would be it, and the Cowboy Bebop one was average.

Yeah that cowboy bebop movie compared to the series is sub par on all levels but ghost in the shell was one of my favorites also. A Mind Dry Hump at times but great all around.

Hmmm....I'm an old school chick. All of these choices you guys are throwing out make me seem just OLD.

For me....

1. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion
2. Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (GREAT movie)
3. Macross Plus (my FAVORITE animated movie ever)
4. Ghost in the Shell
5. Memories
6. Perfect Blue
7. Wings of Honnemeise (I always spell that wrong, but great film)
8. Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro (you won't see a lot of Miyazaki on my list, frankly because I don't like bandwagons....not to say he isn't an awesome storyteller)
9. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (simply awesome, same director as GITS)
10. Ninja Scroll (surprised this one hasn't been mentioned yet)
11. Patlabor the Movie II (The first one was good....the third one DON'T BOTHER....but I saw this one for the second time not too long after 911....and it resonated with me. Watch it and see why)
*12. Genius Party (late entry)

And I know that CB the Movie was a let-down for SOME people....but I am a huge fan of the series, and what they wanted was a film that revisited these characters that the audience was so familiar with and basically put in an "episode" that takes place between 'Brain Scream' and 'Hard Luck Woman'...they also wanted to add another dimension to the story, which if you watch all the way til the end of the credits, you'll see they did. There's my two cents on that.

I just realized that this says 'decade' and half of my list was made in the 70/80s....of course, someone said Appleseed and, depending on which they are referring to, they could be off a few years like me, lol.

I really like your list. but i am curious to know what would the list look like if it was limited to this decade?

i totally forgot about cowboy bebop: Knockin' on heaven's door
I'll replace spriggan with CB.

I think that film was the cherry on top of the cowboy bebop sundae. at the time of its release i watched the series several times, subtitled, dubbed, no subtitles. and just when i was going to retire, they release the film. I couldnt wait for the us release, so i orderd a fansub bootleg on ebay. i still trip out that the film was released pre-9/11 and it was about a terrorist using biological warfare.

I meant the appleseed from 2004. At first I wasn't a huge fan of mixed cgi anime-ation, but after seeing this movie I quickly changed my mind. I also just finished ergo proxy which is also mixed cgi anime-ation(I know that is not what it is called) and it was fucking phenom. I highly recommend it to anyone.

i was not too fond of the appleseed movie because of the cel-shading cgi. i also didn't understand how a robot can cough.

Very true, the rabbit ears bothered me also, yet I had not seen anything like that before and until I saw FF7 advent children, that was the best I had seen. Basically ignorance is bliss.
