- I really don't know why a country as great as America is still using oil. Have you as a country contemplated giving the oil companies the finger and switching to natural gas???? Or maybe just start car pooling or commuting? I've always seen America as a country that has unity amongst its people. You can unite and tell them ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!

I don't think people losing their homes is directly tied to the rising oil prices.
The real estate disaster was caused, primarily by three factors:
1. Financial institutions would give mortgages to people who shouldn't have been approved. They waved the down payment requirement and accepted the thought that property is only going to get more valuable.
2. Governments who let those financial institutions go roughshod.
3. The buyers. In too many cases, they were given a golden platter, and signed it without looking at the fine print. Depending on your mortgage, your interest rate is adjusted or negotiated. People had cheap interest for the first 5 years and now it shot up to where they can't afford the mortgage, interest, bills and all.
I bought real estate during this time. I sold my property as I saw that the market couldn't support itself anymore.
Now I'm looking to get back into the market, since all these foreclosures will be a lot cheaper than before the crash.
