If it's crap... We'll tell you

I have to wait intill sept 4th to see this, (don't worry, I'll be hopefully watching Inglorious Basterds instead, doubtfully) so I wouldn't mind if you told me wether this is as good as the reviews had made it out to be?

Thanks for sharing you thoughts.

Wow...you took this movie way too damn seriously, where as I enjoyed it for what it is, a piece of good entertainment.
Yeah it's not perfect, but I'd rather see this again & again besides some of the most recent typical comedies, chick flicks and non-animated kid flicks and gung-ho action flicks where US&A seems to always save the world. that seems to be almost the only things out in theater apart from this movie for the summer. I liked it, alot of other people liked it, I initially got nothing but good reactions after seeing it. and if you're just gonna go out of your way to make sure nobody else likes this because you didn't like it, and probably flame me because I disagree with a lot of the things you say about it, than that be pretty selfish of you. Like I understand you're expressing your view, but it's pretty hard to tell if you're expressing your view when you're mentioning parts of the movie that not everyone else has seen yet or aren't supposed to see yet until they see the movie, that seriously fucks with their chances to have their own 1st hand experiences and give out their own opinions about it. not everyone sees movies in a way like you do man, and your view of it is not perfect either. couldn't it be easier saying "I didn't enjoy this movie as much as anyone else, It wasn't what I expected, it lacked in what I wished to see" or something like that? no offense. I think foggy was asking for opinions, not spoilers.

This movie kicked ass! I totally loved it!

Peter Jackson did a wonderful job making this film. The make up they used and the animation was just utterly amazing. Not to mention that the actors felt so---real!

Didn't Neill Blomkamp make District 9?

I thought it was different. The initial teaser with the interview had me expecting a film trying to be a bit more artsy than the movie actually was.

I agree with the Giant-Wall-of-Text man regarding the so called depth in this movie. The subtext is too in-your-face to stimulate you too much mentally, but IMO it makes up for this by being a very effective thriller. The last hour /40 minutes works as a great action movie, but that shift in tone seemed a little sudden.

However, District 9 doesn't feel like it's trying to be something it isn't. The underlying message makes no point to hide itself, but this would only hurt the film if it was trying too hard to be artsy. It's not. It reminds me a lot of James Cameron's The Abyss, or heck, Terminator 2. When it needs oscar-level emotional scenes it has them, and when it needs badass crowd-pleasing moments it has them. It all mixes and completely avoids feeling pretentious.

The movie squanders and interesting premise and turns it into a loud dumb action movie. I personally don't think the film was better than a matinee.

None of the characters are interesting and you don't really care what happens to them, plus the film doesn't even make sense ...I can't go into this without spoiling the movie but the main plot device is pretty illogical. Instead of having an interesting look at what life would be like for alien refugees on earth, we get a watered down Kafka novel with a bunch of gory explosions.

Matt, Jack & Jon are three eloquent young gents. They philosophize, externalize, and harmonize on the most pressing subjects of the modern age. Actually, they mostly just talk about movies and current events, but the presentation is what counts.
