-Se7en by David Fincher. I've seen this movie about 4 or 5 times now, and no matter how many times I see it, there is still so much left un-noticed. This movie is so rich in character psychology and dense in emotion that by the time you get to the end, you have no idea you've reached it. The pacing is spectacular and the buildup to the ultimate revelation is just mind blowing.
-The Usual Suspects by Bryan Singer. This movie is the epitome of suspense thrillers and character driven masterpieces. I have yet to see a performance that can top Spacey in this movie.
-The Shawshank Redemption by Frank Darabont. This movie is widely regarded as the best movie of all time, and I feel almost cliched putting it up, but I can't not put it up because most other people think so as well. It's well deserved as being considered one of the best movies of all time, and I would be lying to myself if I didn't mark it as one of my favourites.
-The Silence of the Lambs by Jonathan Demme. Breathtaking film. Everything is perfect about it. There is nothing else for me to say. Anthony Hopkins shot himself in the foot for taking this role, because he has never been able to reach the level he attained in this film.
-12 Angry Men by Sydney Lumet. This movie is probably my favourite movie from the 50s and into the 60s. The simplicity of the setting only amplifies the magnitude of what they're talking about in this movie. To be able to capture this much energy in a two hour movie about 12 men talking in a single room is a work of staggering genius.
I feel almost bad leaving out some other movies, so I'm just going to list another 5 that were fighting for the top, but couldn't quite make it.
-Network
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
-Heat
-Close Encounters of the Third Kind
