Cranbrook (A small town that I resided in for a few years) has an unsually large drug trade problem. I worked in a bar where I got to know many people of shakey reputation. I also worked in a Tattoo Shop financed by the same people.

People simply assumed that I was into coke and having sex with the people who owned the shop. I understood jumping to that assumption, but it always made me angry, and I was happy to track down and confront whoever took it upon themselves to spread slander. I made one guy cry.

My best advice is to track down the source of the rumor. If you didn't do anything, than obviously, no one saw you do anything. You're likely to find that it started with "I bet Bobby and Jill made out last night after everyone left." which quickly turned into "Dave said that Bobby and Jill were all over eachother last night!"

It's usually an inconsiderate assumption or a thoughtless remark which goes through a nasty game of telephone via people who love drama.

probably something like that happen. she wont tell me who told her, and she doesn´t trust me anymore. i dont really care that much, but it is always uncomfotable to be on the wrong foot with someone who now believes i´m a liar and a shady bragger

Then she's an idiot. She's not allowing a confrontation which means that there will be no closure or resolve on the matter. If she's willing to throw away a perfectly good friendship over a cheap lie, than she's not worth your time. Perhaps she'll learn her lesson as she notices all of the people close to her are estranged by whoever is whispering poison into her ear.

yeah i agree. it spawned from me telling four friends at a bar that i´ve been talking to her much latly, and that i´m a little found of her. i have no proof of who told the lie so i can´t confront him, taking assumtions to persons is a bad thing without proof. i just know that one of those guys are a real big douche who deserves a big punch in the face. i hate these sort of things, keeping a reputation and people spreading lies are something i as a person want to keep myself far away from, somehow it just tracked me down

I have this shit happen all the time. Someone once told me they heard i had banged this big nasty girl behind wal-mart one time. I had a gay guy start one that me and my best friend were gay, i tried to kick his ass but he was a fast little bastard and i had done a bunch of xanax's. I am sure that theirs more i just cant think of them.

As you said, it's probably a misunderstanding. Most believable rumors start with a partial truth. For instance:

Someone at my 10 year high shcool reunion asked me where they could get some weed around my place. I gave them a weird look and he said, "Come on man you were the biggest stoner in our class." The funny thing is that I never smoked weed once in high school (and only once since then). But I would get a ride from my old grammar school buddies who would toke up every morning in the car. This made me stink of pot by the time I got to class That on top of the fact that my eyes were bloodshot and drowsy looking because I am not an early riser, gave the impression that I was stoned every day. But other than that, I'm not interesting enough to get many rumors started about me.
