Who can you think is the worst musical artist? Is there a musician that you want to punch in the face? Who do you think is pretentious in the music scene? How many musical bands suck? Can you think of your answer to most, one of, or all these questions?
For me, my personal worst artist is Nickelback cause while their music is cliche'd and enjoyable alternative hard rock to the lowest common denominator, the frontman is one of the most pretentious in the genre.

Musicians who think they are the best - For example: Yngwie Malmsteen - You play amazing solos, but you can't play a memorable riff for shit. Who out there can hum a malmsteen riff? I'll bet everyone knows a Dimebag riff though! Don't think yu're too good because someone els is out there that kicks your ass every time.
Nu Metal bands in general - because most of the time it's "put together" music which tends to sound the same for the purpose of doing nothing but making money through FM radio. Just a clue for these bands - We're tired of all of the Tool, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Rage against the machine imitators. You make a good point mentioning Nickelback Trey. I agree with you for sure.
Cover bands - I don't loathe them, but they aggrevate me. Be original. The original band does the song better anyway. Use your talent instead of wasting it on sloppy seconds. I've seen a lot of talent wasted on trying to play someone else's songs. If there were no original bands there would be no cover bands.

Also, putting Kanye West up in this may invoke the revenge of Mr. Illuminati, so be on your toes. Chris Brown, they are up there with Black Eyed Peas in making crappy and forgettable music.

As for Chris Brown well despite what I think about him as a person and him musically he's definitly not the worst artists out right now. I mean seriously, you put him over the likes of Ke$ha, 3OH!, Nicki Minaj, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Pit Bull and many other shitty artists? c'mon son
You're simply basing your opinions of an artists music off the way you feel about them as a person which is stupid.

This may be stupid to you, but as a musician, I've seen too much of this shit over the years. I've met a lot of great musicians in my day, but when they act above others or act like idiots, they are no longer artists to me. Of course like you first said, I really don't care in the end, but this whole site is about opinions and I just gave mine. If you were offended because you like these guys, sorry, but it doesn't change my opinion. After all, that is what it is, an opinion. You don't have to agree or respect mine, that's cool with me. And yes, we do agree on something. I agree with the others you listed.

You can't expect to like every artist as a person. For example, The Game is a rapper who in my opinion makes great music from time to time but outside of his music I think he's a complete buffoon and R. Kelly seems to have a weird fetish for women in their teens but in my opinion he's still one of the greatest R & B artists of all time/greatest songwriters of all time.
sidenote: I'm not a Chris Brown fan at all.

As is Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, but their music I still like. It's just both musicians have let their fame get to their heads and think they're above everyone else and will neglect and demean anyone below them. (Not to mention, Manson cheated on Dita von Teese... how the fuck do you cheat on Dita von Teese!?!)
But yeah, I can't stop liking music because the person who made it is a dick. If that were the case, there's a lot of movies and shows I'd refuse to watch just for that reason. So I agree with you on this.
Permalink Reply by Scott_PJ on In the vein of Nickelback, I'd easily say Three Days Grace. I can actually name a Nickelback song or two that's enjoyable. TDG however, has no likeable songs that all sound the same and all have painfully corny lyrics that attempt to sound deep. And other than the 8 Bass Notes in "Animal I Have Become" I couldn't even name any tracks with significant instruments.
Ke$ha is horrible in the pop genre too. She's not even singing or rapping (aside from the chorus) She's just TALKING in Auto-Tune. She has no talent, he voice is really grating, and the songs themselves only just derive off of her whorish-partying persona.
