Because you can period pieces that feature the upper class and the lower class as well (in an epic way):

Seeing people's reactions after watching Eraserhead for the first time

Going to a Room screening with people just as ridiculous and crazy as me

Watching It's A Wonderful Life with my family every Christmas Eve

Obnoxiously singing along to the tribal choirs in The Lion King

Finding a shitty movie on Netflix and telling all my friends about how awful this looks; resulting in a screening party

Pretty much anything involving the word Disney and/or Pixar (okay not everything, there are the sequels, some of the live-action movies, anything Disney Animation Studios did between 2003-2008...)

The fucking "Tears in Rain" monologue.

Because I can recite Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin verbatim.

Because I've had very, very long arguments with friends regarding batshit conspiracy theories dealing with said films.

Because Star Wars.

The reason I love movies is the same reason I love every storytelling media. I'm of the strong opinion that stories, the people in them, the methods and styles in which we choose to tell them, are one of, if not THE best ways to better understand humanity as a whole. This includes and is not limited to the question of what it is like to go through all the experiences that characterize what it is to be a self-aware being capable of reflection.

I think there's something deeply satisfying when you're able empathize with and understand another human being on a fundamental level (I think that's one of the keys to the question of what love is; the extreme synchronicity that comes from the higher levels of that understanding). To know via raw sensation, at least by proxy, the intrinsic nature of the emotions and struggles the character on the screen is feeling.

While I'm a big proponent of going out and experiencing things for yourself, movies (when done well) provide a vicarious way to experience those raw extremes of emotion which can sweep you up completely and make you cry or pump your fist or make you jump for joy.

THAT'S why I love movies.

Because of John Williams.

Because watching Pulp Fiction and This is Spinal Tap for the first time are two of the fondest memories I have of my cousin.

Because Jurassic Park still has the best looking CGI ever.

Because the bad guy in Highlander is Mr. Krabs.

because i was lucky enough to to have parents that would take us to the cinema as often as they could, my first cinema memory is of 'a new hope' when it first came out back in 77. most of the intellectual things most have mentioned eg the way camera's glide across a landscape or just are static framing something incredible, dialogue, action sequences etc etc etc came later as i grew older but the deep rooted love of film harks right back to little 4 year old me witnessing the size of queue the roar of the crowd and the feeling of wow what a big assed fucking telly, the all too familiar fanfare at the start and thinking, me likey

Because some tiny little Japanese film company can scare the hell outta me with what I thought was just gonna be another cheesy black and white B Monster movie.

Because they can make me actually root for the Germans in a WWII movie.

Because even the End of the World can be presented so emotionally.

Because I'll never hear "Superman" the same way without shedding a bit of a tear.

Because The Strangers are no match for John Murdock.

Because Jack Griffin's still my favorite classic horror villain.

Because Tetsuo's little accident still gives me nightmares.

Because I'll forever remember Steve Buscemi as the one and only Mr. Pink.

Because only Woody Allen could make me develop a man-crush for Ernest Hemingway.

Because only Jake and Elwood can just walk off something like this.

Because Sam never had a home waiting for him dammit T^T

Because the simple act of making Yuki smile always gets to me.
