From what i've seen and heard, the republicans are an incredibly hostile and hypocritical lot.

I could be described as a republican. I am a registered libertarian. I believe in fiscal conservatism and social liberties. I've been dating a hippy democrat for 7 years and we have worn off on each other. So every once in a while I can be convinced on a social program or two.
Things I personally owe a non libatarian government are:
Federal student loans
College fee waivors
and I'm sure much more.
I will paraphrase Penn Jillette by saying, the problem with libertarianism is that YOU have to be the one that takes it upon yourself to help your neighbor (and I use that phrase loosely).
A libertarian government requires a lot more of its citizens than a paycheck in April.
I'm just sad to see the Tea Party movement being hijacked by the same republicans that started the mess. Please understand that there is a genuine movement that believes in fiscal responsibility and social freedoms. You wouldn't know it by watching cable.
