Who else on Spill is a deist?
As a deist, I wanted to know how many of my bretheren are on the site. For those who don't know, deists beleive that the universe was created by God in a way to perfect he never has to interfere. Ever. Therefore, there are no real miracles, sons of god, prophets, ect. Basically it is a scientific view of God. So, how many else are there?

The idea that an all-powerful being is out there watching out existence with interest comparable to someone who set up a shitload of dominoes is very disconcerting to me. First off, I've always had issues with the idea of a 'humanized' creator. That is disturbing to think that omnipotence is ruled by desires and emotions like we are. I can't believe in a God or an all-powerful entity for reasons like the above.
Follow this logic. Its just another route one could take with Christianity or the Westernized Monotheistic ideal of a God.
God makes heaven.
God makes man.
God is infallible.
God also made in us the capacity to make mistakes and be evil.
An all-knowing being would be incapable of making mistakes and by all respects would be unable to even conceive of them because all it would know and do is right and just.
Thus all mistakes, evil actions, wrong-doings and so on, are part of what God knows and created.
Since God is infallible, all evil is merely part of the plan and not necessarily evil or wrong at all.
The nicest thing you could do in your life is to walk around killing innocent people and helping them leave an existence of pain, sending them to paradise and heaven. You couldn't even be punished for that by God because God would be incapable of seeing the wrong in such an action.
With a God who has set up the universe as one big Rube Goldberg machine no one is responsible for their actions and we have no point in any existence as the path is laid before us. There is no purpose to life.
By believing in such a thing you're actually justifying a view in Nihilism more then Monotheism.
Just my humble opinion.
