Terry Gilliam- Great visual director. He knows his practical effects and has an excellent track record in fantasy.
Guillermo Del Toro - Another visually impressive director. He could emphasize the horror element.
Tim Burton - IF he toned down that god-awful make-up he'd also need a strict producer to keep him on track and faithful to the story. He'd probably be my most reserved choice, but I can't help but think that he would do a better job than Yates and Columbus.
And also another script-writer would also be needed to re-adapt the screen-plays. You can't just plant the exact dialogue, which was my biggest problem with the first movie.
I agree with the Burton choice, he might be hated by some but I'm a fan so would love to see his version of it, his Hogwarts would be awesome with lots of little surprises round every corner.
Young boy with no parents fighting evil? Sounds like a job for Spielberg. I think he'd maybe make a big mess of it but on paper it sounds like prime pickins for the Berg.
I vote for Guillermo. Though Cuarón did an spendid job with the third one making it my favourite of the lot. I'm a fan of Tim Burton but I don't know how he might have handled the action sequences...
I agree but he's not that kind of director. I don't think there is anyone who could have stuck in the director's chair for ten years and still make a good job.
