Which is better 'The Departed' or 'Infernal Affairs'? and the western remake of Old Boy

For those of you who didn't know The Departed was a western adaptation of the 2002 classic Chinese gangster movie Infernal Affairs other wise known as Mou gaan dou.
Now when I first saw Infernal Affairs in 2004 it blew my mind I thought it was one of the best films I had ever seen, and still holds a firm place in my top movies of all time. I loved the visuals, storyline, actors in fact I loved everything about this movie. But unfortunately it never seemed to make the jump, it being a foreign language film.
So I start hearing buzz about this new Scorsese film The Departed in 2006, and my god if it wasn't the exact same movie except they'd replaced the beleivable chinese actors with gay ass Leonardo De Caprio and pals.
I hated The Departed! I just couldn't beleive any of these actors in the roles I mean fuckin Titanic boy come on! What really got me annoyed me was that film won 4 oscars what did infernal affairs get... 0. Oh and here's a kicker, one of those was for best writing, adapted screenplay all they did was put that through freetranslation.com and changed some names.
now they're gonna remake Old Boy, another one of my personal favourite movies,... WITH THE BLOODY FRESH PRINCE!!! when will the killing end!
your thoughts and opinions on this.

Gee, could the reasons that Infernal Affairs and The Departed share so much in come be because the WRITERS WERE THE SAME?

IMDB.com page for The Departed Writers.
Writing credits (WGA)
William Monahan (screenplay)
Alan Mak (2002 screenplay Mou gaan dou) and
Felix Chong (2002 screenplay Mou gaan dou)

So, can we FINALLY put this one to rest. It's sort of hard to claim that the "American" version is a rip-off, a cheap copy, or even STEALING from the Asian version, when the fuckers WRITING THE STORY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE?
If the people involved in making the story CHOOSE to make another version of the same story with a different director, you can't say that it's the director's fault for it being "so close" to the first version, can you? Who's really at fault here? Is it possible, JUST POSSIBLE, that the real "villains" in this whole "Remake debate" are actually the people that WROTE the story and NOT anyone else? Because I'm fairly sure that they BOTH were telling Scorsese about the scenes, characters, and set-up regarding the film WHILE Scorsese was filming it... WITH THEIR APPROVAL.

As far as Oldboy? We do read the featured blogs, don't we?

Well of course the writers are the same it's the same movie. What I hate is that the superior original was looked over just because it was a foreign langauge film and needed to be translated into English before the western world, on whole, took notice.
And if what your Old Boy post says is correct then... YAAAAAAAAAY WOOOOP WOOOOP IT'S PARTY TIME!!!! it's just a shame that I haven't got champain to celebrate such glorious news. Old Boy doesn't need to be remade but instead western audiences need to grow up and just read the fuckin sub titles and get over the fact that they're Korean, present spill company excluded odviously.
