When is someone going to make Garth Ennis's Preacher into a film?
Hey this film is still not made, they have been talking about making this since 2000. With all the crapy comic book to film adaptions, a studio could throw 40 mil to a director, they would make that money back in DVD and BR sales alone.

Preacher should NOT be made into a movie! Why?
1) They won't do it right.
2) Think about it: A preacher who's lost faith in his religion, one day gets possessed by the son of an angel and a demon, and now has the voice of God. How can you do this without offending someone?
You talk about how they are so many crappy comic book adaptions out there. You want another one? Why can't you just enjoy the comic book as it is?

Do it as an HBO series like True Blood. It could be done right, I read the comic all the time it's one of my favorite series of all time. Whenever I read it I always think it would make a great film or TV series if done right. I mean look at watchmen that was a faithful adaption of the book. So it is possible. One more thing about the so called offensive nature of the book. Not doing a peice of art or a story solely for the reason that it may offend is not a good excuse for why it shouldn't be made. I mean look at Dogma, that film was panned by the religious right (before they even saw it I might add) at the same time as Stigmata came out. Dogma had a positive message in it about religion, Stigmata pritty much said the church is a lie. Did Stigmata get any negative press...No it didn`t. So I don`t really care about what the religious right would think of this film; it would be for the people who want to see it. Bottom line I respect your views but to not do something because someone might get upset then not even two days latter move on to something else is just a chicken shit move. I mean the bibble thumpers think Harry Potter is evil...
One more thing not all comic book adaptions are crap when they actually follow the property and a story arc in the comics properly. Examples of this are Watchman, V for Vendetta, Dark Knight, Iron Man. So it is possible but with everyone of those movies theirs a couple Spider-Man 3`s.
That`s all I have to say about that.
