What would you like to see in a potential reboot of the Transformers film series?

Now for me personally, aside from the second one (Revenge of the Fallen), I really did like the Transformers film series. But thinking about what they could do in the future and what I would want to see in a third sequel (since I am a hardcore fan), I came to realize that they can't do anything interesting with what they already have that won't culminate into the same exact thing we saw before but with new human characters. So I just wanted to ask, if the Transformers series was eventually rebooted as was done with properties like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, what would you like to see done (cast, director, etc.)? I'd really like to see someone like Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man), Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans, Ninja Turtles), Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Justin Lin (the last three films in The Fast and the Furious series), Joss Whedon (The Avengers), or Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, directorial contender for Speed Racer) take over the series. For actors, I'm not sure. I'm not one of the fans craving a film set on Cybertron, so I'd still want human characters. Maybe even revamp the ones from the first series (since they were revamps themselves of characters from the original cartoon). But I'm not sure about casting yet though. As for a design aesthetic, I'm fine with the "organic robot" look that's been going on, but I'd like some of the vehicle mode color schemes and robot designs to be modified. (take the flames off Prime, make Ironhide some form of red or maroon and give him a "roman-style" helmet, make Ratchet red and white and give him his helmet with the crest, make Jazz white instead of silver and make his helmet black, etc.)

"Spike"? Show me where it was ever established that Spike was just a nickname and his real name was Sam.

I meant that they were going to use "Spike" as his nickname but dropped it. Sorry for the confusion.

Actaully the original name for the human sidekick character was 'Buster'...which was changed to 'Spike' for the animated series. He appeared in comics released just prior to the first animated series.

Also, NEITHER was a nickname. That little tidbit only popped up in Bay's films.

I'd like to see the Transformers be the bots they originally were in the 80s.

Fuck that. Somebody needs to activate the interlock, connect the dynotherms, raise the infracells, and make sure the mega thrusters are going on this movie!

Aren't Mark Gordon, New Regency, and Relativity Media working on a Voltron movie right now?

I'll believe it when I see it. I think I first heard Gordon was on this nearly ten years ago.

I think it was only eight. From what I understand, he announced his involvement in and around 2004.

Well don't get your hopes up for the Voltron movie, Reuel. Mark Gordon is no longer involved in the project, due to some legal battle with both Ted Klopar and Toei Animation on which will have the rights for the film of Voltron in August 2008 and that Gordon gave up hope for the Voltron movie during development hell.. So far, there's a concept art of the Voltron film that looks kinda neat, but not really worth the interest. Also, how much you wanna bet that Relativity Media will make Voltron the movie into another Transformers cash-grab, just like how Universal did with the Battleship movie?

I never really had any hopes for a Voltron movie because it never interested me. The concept art looks neat, but I don't really care. But yeah, I found out yesterday that both Gordon and New Regency are no longer involved and that only Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and some guys from Kickstart Productions will be producing the film with Relativity. But one question, will Relativity distribute it themselves or will they have Paramount (Viacom's Nickelodeon currently owns the rights to any Voltron series produced) distribute?

Both Relativity Media and Paramount will distribute the Voltron film. Nickelodeon Movies won't be distributing the film, due to that there working on the new Spongebob movie (AND IT BETTER BE FUCKING GOOD!!!).

Nickelodeon Movies isn't a distribution company, only a production company. And well, Nickelodeon Movies is working on many projects, including Ninja Turtles. But is it true that both Relativity and Paramount will collaborate? Do you have a link to an article stating that? (just a precaution)
