I read about the Buffy remake here on Spill and noticed, there's a lot of Buffy fans here, so I'wondering what show do you like more, Buffy or Angel?
I say Angel, just due to it being more fun and not always dragging out the idea that women are better than men in every way possible, it's cool if they think that but just make a cool show and put your manifesto in sparsely and not almost every epidode. But I have to say Buffy's Hush episode is one of my favorite hours of television.
I pick Angel too. It seemed darker. and I love the Angel character, as he was a good guy who could go bad. In fact he did half way through series 4.
I also thought it was funnier than Buffy to. Don't get me wrong, I liked Buffy and all. But it seems whilst Angel was at it's peak with storylines like Hotz huting down Angel and his kid too. Buffy had that whole retarded Army or the geek's as bad guy's story. FYI: What was that all about anyway? lol
Oh yeah those three geeky guys, didn't one of them live with Xander for a while? lol And I think it may have been a bit harder to write a show that has to stay within the confines of a small town. And yeah Angel was funnier. I think Angel's season finale was much better, one of my favorites.
God I forgot about that. The geek living with Xander. God! lol. The thing that pissed me off about that season was that once the geek ran their course, the writters throw their hands up and said, "What now?" Someone (hopfully not Joss) said, "I know, let's turn Willow bad. It worked for Angel" lol
Angel for me was a more rounded show, with better written charcters. My funniest episoode with Angel was when they all turned sevetenen again. For me, I think Wes was the funniest. He was more serious now, but because of the spell he reverted back to that wossy Wes again. Pricless man. Another reason why Angel was better. They could take characters from Buffy and make them into real badasses. If you had told me back in the Buffy days that Wes and Cordella would have become strong and likeable characters. I would not have believed you for one minute.
Buffy has some fantastic moments, and it was extremely funny at times, but simply because of the muppet episode from Angel; Angel can't be beat. Single most brilliant episode of anything I've ever seen on TV. It makes up for the entire 4th series. God that was turgidly boring.
Man, I loved the 4th season of Angel, with the Beast and Jasmine, it made it seem like these baddies could actually threaten all of humanity rather than a small portion. The problem with Buffy was that everything felt like it was only threatening to Sunnydale. And yeaht that Muppet episode was cool.
I think the first half of season four of Angel was very good. You had the Beast and Cordlia going back. But having Angelus return was master a stoke. They even tweek him slightly. He was still a bad guy, but because of the Beast's threat you would find yourself siding for him. Also, note he doesn't kill one person in his time as Angelus he doesn't kill one person. It's small things like that was cool.
But then once Angel returned and he found about Jasmine, the rest of the series just didn't work right I thought.
I agree like the thing with Connor trying to blow up people in the sporting goods store. True the Jasmine story line could've been done better, I'll admit but I still liked the Fred episode when she was alone there for awhile and the idea of human consciousness melding with Jasmine's. I just bout the DVD's and watching the show out of order, right now I'm on Fred's introduction otherwise I wouldn't have gotten your Pylea reference, it's been years, man.
That's my main gripe with the Jasmine story. It was good when Fred was on her own. But I think they rushed having the rest of the gang join. And of course Angel was second after Fred to see it. Angel should have been the last to find out. Think about it. The rest of the gang, including Connor find out, but not Angel. And given the aggresive nature of the spell and Angel being Angel, he would go to the end's of the earth to protect Jasmine. Putting outr actual good guys in real danger.
I remember the Pylea thing cause of how Wes worked it out with the matching of the Warewolf, the ram and the deer books. Or whatever you call that kind of animal. lol It was so nicly done.
Loved Wolfram and Hart. Right of bat you know they were going to be the new "big bad". Hell they even existed in Pylea. Then you had the ulitmate irony in seasin fve, with Angel himself getting to run the law firm. I liked season five and all. But at times that season was one big mind fuck. lol
